I'll chime in on one thing. I think teams win and lose based on simple ingredients: 1) do they have enough talent and 2) do the assistant coaches have good creativity in offensive and defensive play-calling, based on the talent they have, and 3) is the head coach a good "CEO".

I personally never called for Cowher's head because IMO, it was never *him*. The losing seasons were due to injuries/lack of talent and transitions of coordinators. For example: Chan Gailey knew how to use Kordell - not another coordinator did. Everyone else wanted to make him a pocket passer - he'd be a stud in today's NFL. Once BC figured that out, he got him a new QB...

At the same time, I've never asked for Tomlin's head because IMO, it's not *him*. He's been searching for an OC every 2-3 years of his tenure. We all had our preferences for who should have gone/stayed, but that's another story... Between pockets of subpar talent (db's have been crap til recent history), questionable OC's and Tom Brady's never-ending career, it's kinda hard to win a SB the last decade couple of decades.
I was furious with Tomlin after the Patriot loss. The 10 yard cushion had me ready to fight him and Lebeau

But then I calmed down.. rewatched the game and realized even with all that frustration we were a Jesse James football away from a one score game if we pinched the balm on from the one. Of course the OL failed to get a yard.. lol.

but that was the only time I was truly pissed at Tomlin for a loss.

The last 2 playoff losses were filled with early turnovers. Its hard to overcome those.

I said earlier in this thread or in another one that if we protect the ball on offense and lose a playoff game this year people have every right to blame coaching.

also, I do blame Tomlin for giving Ben days off and resting him before playoff games. No one should rest.. rest is rust to these vets. Play them and keep them sharp. I would rather lose a player while trying to win a game vs resting them and risking a slow start and an early exit.
Tomlinís coming back so what can you do?

    I beg to differ.

If this was Cleveland maybe Tomlin WOULD be gone. It is what they do.

We have that a "rich history" of excellence precisely because of our "rich history" of not dumping coaches all the time.

Neither built a team. Tomlin just coached the same players better.

31 out of 32 + QBs won't win the superbowl this coming year.
ben went 12-4 last year with 32 TDs and 10 INTs

why did steeler fans on this board not want him to come back in 2021?

Because he comes up small in the post season...

once Ben agreed to take a pay cut I wanted him back.

I believe he gives us the best chance to win this year.
Steel Maniac predicted no RBs would be chosen in the 1st round, so of course we selected:

    1(24) Najee Harris RB Alabama

    Let me clarify; Roethlisberger is who I am referring to. He has come up small in the post season for the last decade. In post season play since 2010 consider that;

    • His last game-winning drive was 6 yrs ago against CIN
    • His INT rate has been nearly double his career INT in that time frame
    • In half the playoff games his QB rating was <90
    • He has 15 TDs vs 13 TOs

At this point Roethlisberger probably will play well enough to get the Steelers back to the post season and I am certain this was part of Rooney's/Tomlin's decision to bring him back.
Roethlisberger has never won a playoff game in which he has attempted more than 35 passes. If the Steelers can find a way to take it out of his hands then I think chances are better for a push to the SB.

Coaches and teams tend to come up short in the regular season or post season when their QBs don't play well or commit turnovers.

    Ben is pushing 40..

Ben was scheduled to make 41 mil this year

Everyone says the game speed is much faster in the playoffs.

Recently it looks like Ben has needed a quarter or a half to adjust to the speed of the game in the playoffs. Maybe its just bad play or the other team getting paid too but its a concern.

I would’ve preferred moving on and taking the hit this year but I underetand completely why our FO still believes Ben can get us to the promise land. If we were 4-12 Ben would be gone. Going 12-4 is part of the reason or maybe the main reason he is returning this year.
