    Russ motivated by stats

Yeesh, wish he would have kept this to himself. "Letting Russ Cook" in Seattle was what turned that team from Super Bowl champ to playoff disappointment. Sure, he put up great stats between 2015 and 2020, but after going 6-2 in the playoffs his first three seasons as more of a game manager, the Seahawks went 3-5 in the playoffs during his prolific passing years.

The model this year should be what Seattle did his first three years -- rely on run game and D, let Russ make timely plays when needed.

I'm sure he's got a lot of stuff that motivates him - particularly winning. But I do find it distasteful that he's posting stats to compare himself with hall of famers. You don't need to do that stuff when you truly are great. It's almost like he's feeling a little insecurity after the past couple of seasons and all of the folks who are doubting him out there in Internetland.

Those later years also were when the Seahawks defense satrted to fade

People hate when I say it but I see a VERY SIMILAR pattern with Ben. I see them as being pretty much the same except Ben won a second SB and Russ has better numbers. Neither has won JACK without elite defenses, but put up big numbers in seasons that did not lead to championships.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Why would this be an issue with anyone when most of this board can't stay away form PFF and Fantasy Football. Stats are a fact of life in the modern NFL. It is how players get paid and recognized.

I don’t hate this at all. Kinda LOVE IT.
THIS is what excites me about him being here.

I said it before, his entire motivation is his LEGACY as being a GREAT QB.

The whole Denver fiasco has diminished that legacy greatly. He has done what almost never happens. Possibly played himself OUT of a legacy of greatness.

He is HUNGRY my friends like few others. Yes he is reminding us of his numbers but he knows WINNING is what will seal the deal. He did not PURSUE THE STEELERS to set passing records.

He sees a team that TOTALED fewer passing TDs than he can thrown in his sleep in HALF a season and STILL won 10 games. He came here to WIN.

YES it is 100 percent ego like this stat post. But he wants people to see his career as ELITE. He is HIGHLY MOTIVATED.

And he is motivated by GREATNESS AND LEGACY over all else. Including money.

Mark my words. I said this MONTHS ago. If he has ANY playoff success he is extending CHEAP, because he will see this as a team he can win a SB with. He got PAID in Seattle and Denver already.

Low end starter money will keep him easy. Add to his motivation his Bronco fail, he will never get a top offer from another team. If he excels he might be offered marginally more than what we offer but he won’t jump.

He will stay despite never being our highest paid player no matter how well he plays. I truly believe this is how he SOLD Tomlin and Khan.

Tomlin and Russ relate because they are essentially IN THE SAME POSITION as far as legacy. And BOTH have the same motivations.

This is why I do not believe Fields is our future UNLESS Russ stinks up the joint.

Call me old fashioned, but I think a very good running game and low risk offense combined with a good defense that produces turnovers, and good special teams play is what this team should strive to be... untiil we draft a QB.

Pickens is the key. The offense needs his big play ability. Our OL must gel with several new projected starters. I'd take a step backward and play the new guys and deal with growng pains from day one.... the plan being we will be a better team becuase of it by Thanksgiving.

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Now wait a minute. In one post you say Wilson has a similar pattern to Roethlisberger (and I agree). In this one you mention playoff success. We need to hope he doesn't look like Roethlisberger in any postseason game.... regular season warrior, postseason dud in the waning years....

I assure you my friend, we win the Jax game going away with any of his SB defenses. I am talking SMOKE them. Heck we win it all that season, even the Pats would fall.

I keep saying this DEFENSE lost that game WAY MORE than Ben did.

If Russ looks ANYTHING LIKE Ben at the same age Im giddy.

The similarities is Russ and Ben only succeeded with a great defense nothing to do with age. Ben or Russ could have won in later years with those elite defenses.

We are trying to build the kind of team they BOTH won with and I like that formula.

I agree that legacy is likely what motivates Wilson more than anything. His was tarnished the past two seasons and he is obviously aware of the chatter. But that doesn't mean you need to go around posting random stats that sandwich your name between Manning and Marino, just so everyone can see you are worthy of being discussed as a hall of famer. He needs to let his play do the talking. There will be plenty of time for posting your own stats once you hang up your cleats. Even then, STFU and let the totality of your career speak for itself.

                          All players chase stats..

Any TD’s added to his total will be TD’s in out offense this year.

Roethlisberger's career against the Jags was second worst to only BUF. He had a career QB rating of 79.8 against them. He had 14 TDs vs 12 INTs. In the 2017 reg season he tossed 5 INTs against them and ended with a 30s something QB rating. Some teams just have a QB's number. And some QBs have an opponent's number.

We damn sure wouldn’t win that game with the 2008 SB defensive performance.

Anytime it was one score game our offense couldn’t score points or move the football.

Not sure why folks continue to talk about that game. Let it go
