I'm not so sure he really knows what "independent" actually means?

    "Hey, what's 2+2?"
    "Uh... 6?"
"I'm so proud of your independent thinking"
Independent meaning having an opinion on something and keeping instead of turtling up, giving in and agreeing with the masses.
It’s called having some balls to stand for what you believe.
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

If you listen back to Mike Tomlin's draft call to Troy Fautanu, you can hear scout Kelvin Fisher (over Tomlin's shoulder) call out "7 out of 20"

Based on that & how the Steelers build their board, I think Fautanu was their No. 7 prospect. Awesome value.

Let’s start with what we know. We know the Pittsburgh Steelers were high on Washington OT Troy Fautanu and were thrilled to get him with the 20th overall selection. We know, by Omar Khan’s words following the pick, that he was sweating out whether or not Fautanu, a projected Top 15 selection, would actually fall […]

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Actually 7 of 20 was part of the same Borg cube this Star Trek character was rescued from.

            First-rounder Troy Fautanu (OT/Washington)

Some have pointed out that Fautanu didn't even protect the blindside of his quarterback as a left tackle at the University of Washington. Since Michael Penix is left-handed, that duty fell to right tackle Roger Rosengarten, who was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round.

But Steelers coach Mike Tomlin made a good point while discussing Fautanu this weekend about how dominant the run-action, wide receiver screen game and pocket movement were to the left side in the Huskies' scheme.

"Their perimeter game was very left-handed," Tomlin said. "Watching it from a spectator's perspective lets you know that the left tackle was a special player in their eyes just by play selection. Not often do you watch the tape and see plays called to highlight a guy who is not an eligible (receiver/ball carrier), but that is what it looked like watching UW tape."

There is every reason to assume that he should be able to translate to the right side with right-handers Russell Wilson and Justin Fields at quarterback if the decision is made to shift Broderick Jones over to his more natural left side.

We’ve spent a lot of time getting to know the Steelers’ new draft class based on how they performed at the college football level. But what will make them good fits in Pittsburgh, specifically with the current roster constructed as it is? Let’s go pick-by-pick with some subtleties and nuggets

Saw a report that concern over Fautanu's long-term health prospect (knee) may have caused his draft stock to slip somewhat

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle prospect Troy Fautanu may be sliding late in the NFL Draft process due to some medical concerns in his knee.

Solid draft but it comes with injury baggage.

5 on Fautanu: Steelers 'got a steal' in their 1st-round pick

                  TIM BENZ | Tuesday, April 30, 2024

Everyone in Pittsburgh seems to love the first-round NFL Draft selection of Troy Fautanu. But let’s get the opinion of someone who covered Fautanu during his entire career at the University of Washington. Dick Fain hosts the afternoon show at 93.3 KJR in Seattle with Dave “Softy” Mahler. He is

I think one of them will (BJ or TF). But I don't know if it will happen on day 1.

I hope that they do beat him out solidly in camp. Because then we can probably flip Moore for a mid round pick and not have to pay his proven performance escalator bonus. I think this is the same reason we flipped Dotson. He wasn't going to start and we didn't want to pay the bigger salary to a backup.
