Anytime Mason?s name was brought up the immediate response was ?he was benched for Duck?

He?s best known for getting beat with a helmet and tying the Lions a fee years ago.

All a sudden Mason is everyone?s hero and fans act like Tomlin has been unfair to Mason when they were the same one?s booing him in preseason.

I was certainly in the "I don't believe in Mason long term because getting beat out by Duck isn't good for a guy's hopes to be a long term starter" boat.

And then we got more data.

And now I think he can probably be a solid back up / short term starter / transitional guy. Which is sadly what I think we're going to need next season and maybe the one after (hope to be wrong).

But the short stretch of games Mason had last season was also pretty good. I think the highest QB rating over the last 3 weeks of anyone in the league? I don't think that's what he is over bigger samples, but you never know.

Note that the sentence above re: Mason can also be used for Kenny. Just sub Mason = Kenny and Duck = Mason.

I was firmly in the Mason sucks camp and preferred Duck despite his lack of arm because of intangibles.

Mason hasn?t ever shown anything other than a great arm and deep ball prior to this season.

I?ve also always noticed in camp that he?s the guy on our team with the NFL arm and his arm is an order of magnitude better than Kenny?s. But Mason didn?t process, he had happy feet, and had 0 touch on passes outside the deep ball.

But to Mason?s credit he fixed every one of his major malfunctions. He surprised the heck out of me. And now I?m in the camp of I believe in Mason.

Mason has always been a nice guy but after seeing him with Ramon recently, I think he?s matured and is ready to play in this league. It just took him a while but he?s there. I never would have expected it, but at this point I have him light years ahead of Kenny.

and I really like Kenny. And think he has potential that will come out once he gets a little more time. But Mason just walked in to the Kenny offense and showed how much better he is with no practice and no reps. It?s night and day different watching the 2 QBs.

I think everyone in the org knows it too despite no one saying it. At the end of the day you could even argue that Kenny not being able to sustain drives is what put the D on the field so much which could have lead to some of the injuries we saw.

Sometimes guys just need some time and none of us are patient enough with anyone. Maybe Kenny just needs time, but unfortunately for him, I think Mason is there and has the bigger upside.

Plus Kenny had gotten hurt a lot. Can we trust that?
