Goodbye Slot Receiver, Hello Fullback: Two Shifts For Arthur Smith's Offense

Arthur Smith's Steelers' offense isn't likely to feature a slot receiver while it figures to lean on utilizing a fullback.

Given we don't have a great slot receiver, this would not be a bad move.

This is actually a great article.
        Thanks for posting it.
This will truly give us a gauge on who’s running this offense.
If we don’t draft a true FB or get one in FA, we will know.
If our numbers of 2 back sets doesn’t go way up or if we trot out a slot we relatively often, we will know.
I’m now pretty excited to see how this team gets built in the next couple months..
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

I cannot express how much I LOVE THIS MOVE. I actually prefer we go 2 backs with who we have. Both are nice blockers who can lead for each other. We can then feature Harris mostly inside and Warren outside without pre-snap predictability.

As both are fine receivers, we can pass out of it successfully too.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

I like this move and it will help in the RZ.

            Calling Derek Watt.

The article specifically states that he used a true fullback around 20% of the time.
It is a FB who?s main job is to block and gets few, if any, carries or catches for the season. Our 2 backs don?t fit that mold.

My friend what part of my statement, “actually I would prefer” did you fail to grasp.

My point is while I like having a fullback, I think we have two players who CAN fill that lead blocking role while being versatile weapons too.

I would suggest that Smiths loving the idea of passing out of running formations might realistically lead to his coming to that same conclusion.

Maybe the can draft a guy in the 3rd round who never played the position in college, convert him, and call it the steal of the draft.

I am often sarcastic. None here.

I know people would LOSE THEIR MINDS over it but I would SERIOUSLY bring back Green for that role IN A HEARTBEAT if he is available.
