    On Pickett/DJ MIscommunications

Screenshot of all-22 showing Pickett launching a go-ball while DJ (near the bottom of pic) runs a stop curl.

Who made the wrong decision is close to 50/50 in my view. DJ never really clears the CB so chose to curl back while Pickett obviously thought DJ could accelerate past the CB.

(meanwhile a couple of guys WIDE OPEN underneath for a dump)

    I would probably blame Kenny.

He had about 30 drop backs and I’m guessing based on plays I’ve seen, he missed seeing open guys on 15-20 plays and some of them were even in the middle of the field.

This O is predictable, but there are plays to be made and Kenny isn’t seeing them.

Then on the stuff he sees, I would assume he is making the wrong read given all the other things he misses.

This may be over simplified, but Kenny only seems to make a throw when it’s a dump off and his first read or it’s a 10 yard sideline throw to the left if that’s his first read.

But even the 10 yard out isn’t common because I think he’s afraid he doesn’t have time to hold the ball for a 10 yard throw.

I feel bad. The kid looks completely lost on the field. Not sure if it’s fear? Maybe the concussions have made him rethink everything. He just looks anxious and that’s jumbling his processing.

I think Tomlin is going to give him 2 quarters against the Bumgals. If not my gut tells me MT may start the 2nd half. Even with all the teeth gnashing in here we are in shape for at least a wild-card slot and we can't waste the season waiting on Kenny to develop.

Canada won't be fired at this juncture of the season, in fact it won't surprise me if they extend him. The bad thing with MT is he is an interception machine.

With Canada gone it's one less excuse for Pickett. If he can't pick things up through the rest of the season it will be Pickett next on the chopping block.

Well, to be fair, it's not like a new coordinator can just step in and magically make everything better instantly. It's good news but it'll take time to fix what's broken. We wasted 23 games of Kenny's career under a simpleton offense that has probably seriously hurt his confidence.

              LMAO.

it is what was needed tho.

The ONLY way to know if it is Kenny or Canada is to get rid of one, then see how the other does…

i wish they had done it sooner. The sooner you can confirm whether KP is the guy or not, then sooner you know next steps.

Agreed… “why is my first read never open?” Because play design AND the read order you have been told sucks

I was wondering about Sullivan and his stints with Giants and Bucs, doesn't sound too good lol. But hey, anything has to be an improvement over Canada, at least temporarily.

Tell that to Buffalo after firing their OC and going gangbusters in their first game without him.

They forced a fumble on ST's on the opening kickoff. I think we could see something similar where the team is so jacked up they got rid of the flat tire they will execute even if its the same plays because they feel like the next play will be better than some of those wet blanket calls by Canada.

but it was also the Jets. These next 3 games by Buffalo will tell us a lot.

                      Eagles, KC and Dallas.

whew, that is a tough 3 week stretch.

4 FGs -- one a -9 yard drive, another a 22 yard drive -- and a 23-yard TD drive made up 19 of their 32 points. Also an 81-yard play.

I'd take it in a New York minute from our offense! I don't care how we get to 30 plus points right now...beggers can't be choosey! LOL

They have a known quantity at quarterback, granted, one that turns the ball over but also makes a lot of big plays, that helps. The Steelers are still trying to determine what they have at quarterback.

Maybe it's time to allow/encourage our QB to make some big plays and stop being so overly concerned with turnovers. Not sure how you determine what you have at QB when all it seems he's throwing are passes to the sidelines, within 10 yards.
