"They Are Asking Cole to Do Things He Can't Do"

Great cutups and explanation on why the run game is failing. Cole is struggling massively. The TEs have not been good on their blocks (yes, that includes Washington!).

Is this a change from last year or have defenses found it's weakness and are now exploiting it?

Don't put it all on Harris.

Yeah, I posted in the game thread how Washington was pushed 3 yards into the hole on a running play. He did not look good as a blocker last game.

and the guards are awful. Makes me think its the blocking scheme since the FA was supposed to be the biggest upgrade and he looks worse than Dotson after 2 games.

scrap the scheme and go back to simple stuff after the bye last year.

just watched all of this.. throw that crap out the window. The splits between the OL are too wide and guys can’t get to these defenders quick enough.

I hate seeing OL let guys go unblocked to get to their assignment. Block the guy in front of you and watch what happens.. lol.

It's hard to even throw shade at Canada when the offensive line and run blocking looks this bad. I have no idea how they could have possibly regressed this much. I know it takes time to gel, but this offensive line is as bad as we've ever seen it.

Isn't the OC ultimately responsible for the blocking scheme, splits, blocking style, etc? If the offensive line coach is teaching something that isn't working or can't work then the OC has to tell him to change it, doesn't he?

Yep. Outside zone, inside zone, or gap blocking. It all comes back to scheme.

With how bad the O has been, I do wonder if the center play has been very bad.

It seems to me like that's been a common denominator of offense we've had where nothing works.

Cole seemed like he was at least OK last season though.

Under center - 90% run. Shotgun -80% pass. Handicapping the line when the D knows the play. That is all Canada.

If the inside of the line is collapsed go with the speed back who can run outside and hit the hole quicker. Who might that be? DUH.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Thats why you have to self scout. Changes are always needed in game, half time and game to game. We got away from jet motion and that allows you to determine the coverage n sometimes gets slow reacting D's to be taken advantage of. We need to keep that in the game plan as it was productive in the pre-season. I want us to get to some pistol formation plays with jet motion. Puts pressure on the D especially if we're running it with someone with home run speed like Austin.

The Steelers ran more out of shotgun last night. It wasn't particularly successful, but it broke tendencies on film.

But, but, but ... some of the resident "experts" on this board claim that teams almost never make any meaningful adjustments in game or at the half
