How do you figure? They've done almost nothing to improve that I'm aware of. They added some scrub WR from the Jets, and? Dalvin Tomlinson, DT from MN. Brissett at QB, oh no.

Browns to me makes sense because the have a better QB.

And I guess probably the same logic is being used for the Broncos. Chalking Wilson's poor performance last year to a fluke?

This is the issue with taking VS tiers
From last season, the top 5 teams (record wise) in the AFC had 10+ wins.

Teams ranked 6-8 (including us) had 9 wins.
Ranked 9 was an 8 win team.
          Ranked 10 - 12 were 7 win teams.

IIRC, the final ranking of most of those teams in the 6-12 range was up for grabs in the last 2 weeks of the season. So, I don't think there was too much separating them.

In other words: We aren't expected to be a division winner. And most of the WCs will be competitive until the last week or two.

I think that's a reasonable expectation for us. A team that will compete to make the playoffs as a WC team.

Watson was better 3 years ago. He hasn’t played in a long time and looked like trash this year.

Wilson might have something left but life comes at you fast. This might be who he is now that he left Seattle.

I mean, they were "top 10" last year, just missing the playoffs on the final day - and that was with Mitch getting the team off to a miserable start. Has everyone else improved that much?

As a side note, .500 with the AFCN would be success this year.

                I don't disagree with you.

But both of those guys have bigger "names" than Picket. And I tend to thing that big national publications don't do much real thinking about stuff.

My initial thought is that they probably need a playoff berth to be considered a success this year. And some significant improvement from KP / offensive scheme. Particularly in the red zone (and intermediate passing).

We are supposed to be a team on the rise with a young QB. If we're just treading water, I don't think that's "successful".

Claim it's meaningless, and it is, but it shows you how much credence, or the lack there of, Pgh is getting so far. Pgh is ranked below Denver and Cleveland.
This happens ALL THE TIME. Last season the over under was 7.5. Most of those seasons you felt we were some kind of disappointing juggernaut. We ROUTINELY beat the odds predictions.

During the Tomlin era we beat the odds makes predictions 11 out of 16 seasons.

Vegas said this about last seasons Steelers:

The Steelers are listed at +4000 to win the AFC (https://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/odds/futures/), which is the fourth-worst odds to win the conference only ahead of the Jaguars (+6600), Jets (+6600), and Texans (+15000)

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

                    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

Jags are longer odds than the Steelers? Seriously?

There's no way it should be considered a "success." 9-8 last year, no playoffs. They need to be at least 10-7 and make the playoffs to be considered "on track." Many would say and also at least win 1 playoff game.

Not only made the playoffs but WON a playoff game; something Pgh hasn't done in 6 years. Some pinnacle of a winning franchise.

I expect Watson to look more like his old self this coming year.
