Pretty much all UFAs have real downsides. Otherwise their current teams would sign them.

Hope this guy works out in our system.

Either way, seems like a legit NFL player. Which I'm not sure was true for all of our depth last year. So it's probably an upgrade even if he doesn't start.

Well, that was a decent write up on him. Has me hopeful. Clearly he's better than a couple of guys we've got on that O-line so there's that. I applaude Khan/Weidl in their efforts. Just hope they hit on this pick up.

agreed, good depth signing who can provide Dotson some competition for the starting LG job.

5th best run blocking guard in the NFC according to your very own PFF https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/nate-herbig/28844

Another hat in the ring at LG. If he makes the roster, he’s probably a backup along 3 spots ala Trai Essex at worst. If any of the $4MM guaranteed is in the form of a 2024 roster bonus, workout bonus, etc. he’s probably a cheap cut. Very little downside.

FWIW the Jets spoke pretty highly of him last year.

This was a good signing. Even though the same ol' "Debbie Downers" will instinctively complain (as they do about everything)...this is an upgrade over Dotson who IMO is the weak link on the OL.

I also think you may see James Daniels go to the Left and Herbig play the right side

He rated 51st out of 77 guards and had a 55.7 run block grade

but you know this signing almost guarantees we draft his brother, the LB out of Wisconsin

LOL, got to revise my mock now

Seems like a pretty steep drop.

I also think OL is often thought of as one of the more difficult positions for PFF to grade. But maybe that's just because I've listened to Foster's show and I think he strongly dislikes PFF (likely because of the grades he got).
a few clips on twitter (against us ironically) have him playing RG

Last 2 seasons he's mostly played RG. Looking at his game logs on PFF from 2020 at LG, I think there's a reason why PHI moved him to the right and the Jets kept him there.
