What's the infatuation with re-signing Bud?

    1. He priced himself out of of range, thank God. He was never anywhere as good as his price tag when he signed with TN, period.

    2. Since I called him out on that, I've been proven 100% correct. Plus, now he's been hurt the last 2 years. His tackles and sacks have virtually disappeared since in TN (3.5 sacks per season, 17.5 tackles, combined). What do the yinzers think those #'s are worth? Vet minimum? If that?

    3. I just don't get the infatuation with bringing Bud back. He's not worth anything at this point. Going back to yester-year may be "fun" but it's not too damn pragmatic, and if definitely isn't in this case. Get over it.

BTW, I'm not really calling out this trend in here so much, but in other forums.

Chase Winovich would be a better value signing

      knows our system,

      depth behind Highsmith/Watt

      should be affordable.

so sad.. and If Bud comes at the right price (i.e., "high end-backup money") then he makes sense... it'd be weird having him make more than Highsmith, but it is what it is...

Good run defender too. Even if both Watt and Highsmith play 80% of the snaps, that means 40% of snaps are available between both sides. Plus injury depth. This is what they tried to do with Melvin Ingram.

At the right price, it makes a lot more sense than putting the likes of Jamir Jones out there.

Now, if you said they need to draft a guy and plan for life after Highsmith I wouldn’t disagree with that either. In any case, having a capable vet in the room is a plus.

I think bringing back Bud Dupree would be a fantastic move. He would be a perfect fit in a 3-man rotation, as long as he is cool with being third in that rotation and equally cool with getting paid like it.

You're a very smart guy and I agree with you 100% about what you've suggested about Bud. Hope you're doing well FlaSteel.

Jamir Jones and a man named “Taco” are reasons that I WOULD LOVE to bring Bud back.

WE ALL knew he was over paid, but at the EXTREMELY AFFORDABLE price that he would have to settle for today, one would be foolish not to kick the tires.

But like Florida said, he would have to be cool with his role.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Everyone seems to be ignoring his recent injury history. Whether a backup or not, he's got to be available when needed. The Steelers can do better drafting a backup.

Not at all. Injury history is why his cost will be a fraction of what it was. He ain’t a central piece my friend.

Drafting a legit backup takes away another pick that could use a “starter” upgrade.

The titans and vrabel are the most fined team in the league for their physical practices. I suspect that is a factor for who’s available on game day. That being said, buds price is now back in reality and I also agree - if he’s good with 16-20 snaps a game in a 3 man rotation I think this would be a strong signing.

I'm not sure. I've little doubt he probably wants to come back here.

It’s part of the “at the right price” formula for sure.

They probably do need to draft a guy given Highsmith’s impending shot at FA but having more good players in the room isn’t a bad thing.
