    Back Up QB

Do you just go with Jones for the next 6 weeks or should the team look for a vet to bring in? What would you do?

I was listening to the radio post game They said the Steelers will no doubt be looking in the ten days between the Ravens game and their next game.

If the Steelers as buccoray61 posted go looking for a backup quarterback between the Ravens game and their next game, then doesn't that beg the question: Why did they keep Landry Jones? I liked this pick when they made it, but going and looking for a a second backup quarterback (Vick first) indicates to me that they have little or no confidence that Jones can be an NFL quarterback backup or otherwise and similar to Dri Archer that roster spot maybe should be re-evaluated.

Me, as the GM, I'm out there looking for a backup to Mike Vick, I haven't seen anything from Landry that indicates he's ready for prime time action in an NFL game. I'm not sure what's available, I'm sure the pickings are slim, but I'd be looking.

Then why TF is Landry even on the roster? He has no upside.

I don't get why Jones is on the roster either. They said on the show I was listening to that it's pretty clear the Steelers don't trust Jones.

I honestly wouldn't mind Tebow. He's not the greatest passer but he has a burning desire to find a way to win. To me, Vick just looks like he's going through the motions. Imagine having Vick and Tebow on the same team. Wouldn't that be odd!

Is Matt Flynn still out there? The pickings are really slim.

I'm not partaking of any controlled substances and I wouldn't mind seeing Tebow either. He would bring a little drama and interest to what may otherwise be a lost season. I have no confidence in Vick. Too old and broken down. Maybe the Vick of ten years ago could have pulled it off. Tebow would be better than Jones and who else is out there? At this point we are beggars, not choosers.

I'd just go with Landry. We traded for a kicker out of desperation and how has that worked out?
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

Since the pickings are slim, do you try and trade for another team's backup quarterback? The Steelers are deep at WR and ILB, could Coates, Spence or Williams draw enough attention to pick up a solid veteran backup, that might replace Mike Vick once Ben returns?

I know you all watched Jones in the preseason. He's simply not NFL talent. I have no idea why he's on this team. I don't believe the Steelers would even be competitive if he had to take the field in a regular season game.

But the reality is I'm not sure there's anyone better out there unless they are willing to trade a player or drafts slots to get a back-up and that is short sighted. At this point, even atheists are praying Vick doesn't' get hurt.

If Ben were projected to be out for more that 4-6 weeks, I might pull the trigger. If Vick gets hurt, I definitely pull the trigger. But, otherwise, I just go with Jones.

Don't assume that when Ben returns he'll be the same Ben you saw against the 49'ers. He'll more likely be rusty, timing will be off, wearing a knee brace and gimpy. Ten years ago he was a fast healer. I wouldn't assume that's still the case. Yes, I'm saying his season could well be in the dumpster and maybe this injury doesn't end his career but it could well shorten it.

That being the case, you lean on your 1st team All-Pro RB and the guy who is currently 2nd in rushing TDs...
