Or did it get so bad that Rooney finally let Tomlin fire him (but only when the check he had to write was small enough of course)?

It's pretty clearly a team policy.

You don't have to blame absolutely everything on Tomlin (well...apparently you do, but you shouldn't).

As I said above, I think he gets the blame for hiring Canada.
Idk Cowher got to fire coaches... I think Sherman technically resigned but it seems that he was out one way or another. Gilbride got fired. Tim Lewis got fired. Did Erhardt get fired? It's not super clear in the minute or two of searching I did.

In season? I don't think that's the case.

So coaches aren’t allowed to fire subordinates in season, but Tomlin was?

Oh, sorry no. Definitely not in season. When Canada got fired last year, I think they were saying that the last in-season firing of a coordinator was in like the 1940s.

                  I never said I did.

Just pointing out that what you meant to say was that "you agree with these reporters when they agree with you". Which I think is one of the complaints you have about others re: pff.

You said yourself they don’t fire coaches mid-season, do you think Tomlin did that on his own authority?

On a Tuesday, after he went about business as usual on Monday?

Maybe Canada accidentally put salt in Mike’s coffee instead of sugar.

Maybe Tomlin met with Rooney on Monday to discuss it and they both agreed it had to be done and couldn't wait until the end of the season.

I think Tomlin was eventually allowed to fire Canada.

I believe you said that Rooney had to fire Canada even though Tomlin never wanted it.

The Steelers announced the following changes and updates regarding the team:
                          • DC Teryl Austin's position has been elevated to Defensive Mouthpiece
                          • It is now mandatory that all defensive backs wear yellow gloves to better coordinate with team colors
                          • Arthur Smith announced new technology enabling "Mute" function on all QBs when attempting to audible out of the playcall
                          • There will be no more arriving fashionably late to team meetings (Note: G. Pickens exempted)
                          • A Comfort Therapist will be made available to all players after any regular season losses
                          • The Defensive Playbook will have one new page added (but, in an effort to reduce miscommunications during games and streamline learning, three previous pages will be deleted)
