The Rooneys are the real problem

Here’s Jim Rooney, who I didn’t know existed before 5 minutes ago, explaining that the reason for lack of playoff success is because they overperform in the regular season and then are beaten by better teams in the playoffs.

What games did they win that they weren’t supposed to win? Washington? How did they outperform?

And this doesn’t make sense in the context of 2011, 2017, 2020. They were favorites in those games and got embarrassed in all three.

Wow, never thought we’d miss Dan so much.

The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t won a playoff game in eight seasons, and after their recent playoff failure in a 28-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin caught some heat from fans and analysts for his recent playoff struggles. But the Steelers are sticking with Tomlin, and Jim Rooney, the son of […]

Dan was the only true football guy in the family. Art sr was smart enough to let him run the show - and it paid huge dividends. Art 2 is just not the same guy. He's our version of Mike Brown - and Tomlin is closing in on Marvin Lewis's playoff loss record.

It's nauseating to think that's possibly what this team is becoming.

I'm hopeful that Art II will retire soon, and hand the reins over to a Rooney who cares about winning

I mean, he's right. It's not just Tomlin or just Khan or just anyone of course.

I'd like to think that they're looking at their processes and procedures and all of that. I'm a process over results guy to a point. But at some point the results have to come. It has been 6 years since Ben got hurt, which is a lifetime in the NFL. Even if you cut them slack on the QB situation - and it's appropriate to IMO since about half to two-thirds of the league is looking for one at any given point - it doesn't explain the rest of the pile of issues.

And even looking at other indicators. I think it was NorthCoast who made a post about the analytics staff the other day. They routinely have the smallest coaching staff in the NFL. Not sure how the back office staff compares.

They've gotten killed on relatively simple things in the NFLPA survey. F- on treatment of families, largely driven by the fact that they don't have daycare for kids on gameday. The players feel like their gym is no better than an off-site gym. Not enough training staff... Hmm, I wonder where all the soft tissue injuries come from. Here's the full list of categories and their rankings from the 2024 survey.

Like, at least make an effort...

We need the Rooneys to sell the team, they don't care about winning.

All of our coaches should be fired, especially our head coach unless we can get something for him in a trade.

A lot of players need to be traded or released immediately. Nothing but a bunch of divas, thugs and malcontents.

Probably need a new training staff also, way too many injuries that should be prevented.

                Did I miss anything?

It would be great to have some context for these results.

Especially the "F-" in treatment of families and ownership. I would have thought that these would traditionally be places where the Steelers would shine. But maybe I'm wrong.

Re: ownership, it looks to me like they think the facilities mostly aren't good. Which is probably why they rate the ownership so poorly.

But I wonder what the deal with the families part is.

I read that list of graded items. The first thing that came to my mind is, these players are pampered brats. Dieticians what does that mean. They don't like the food in the cafeteria? Trainers and training facility, what is it they want? Daycare come on I'm not buying that.

Look the Rooney's have been this way the whole time. They all know football. They all started out doing low level stuff as kids. Art II is just like his grandfather. He's cheap. Look the only reason he got Wilson was because it was cheap. We're not signing Wilson next year unless no one wants him and we get him cheap.

If they can get Fields cheap he'll be the QB next year. We won't sign anybody as a FA for 30+M$. The Steelers are not like the other teams. Art II likes defense and smashmouth football.

Art's son is coming up. Art won't do this too much longer. Perhaps through Mike Tomlins recent contract. Maybe the next generation will modernize so to speak. I expect we will bottom out say 5-12 and draft a QB and hope for the next dynasty. I don't expect anything any better under the present regime.

Need a new multi-billion dollar stadium paid for by the owner

Need a hotline so during games fans can call in plays directly to the QBs helmet since the fans are so much smarter

Need fans to control the drafts since their mocks are so much better than what the team does

Need a fan panel so that they can direct and control trades of players who don't act the way they want

Speaking of dieticians, did I hear correctly during the BUF/BAL game that Henry has a personal chef paid for by the team?

That means he's got his own cook at home and he managed to negotiate that money(90K$) into his contract.
