I'm willing to give Fields a year. The others in this group I would pass on. That does not mean I would be against drafting a qb. Even drafting a qb early not out of the question. Without the qb where are we going?
Look at the final 4 teams left in the playoffs. Qb's all playing at a very high level. Not imposable to get there without a top qb but not likely,

Especially in the AFC IMO. Where we probably have at least the top 4 QBs in the league.

But I don't want to draft a QB just to draft a QB. Especially at the top of the draft. Especially in a weak QB class.

Maybe something like "if you wouldn't trade up for that QB, don't draft him?"

I'd only be "willing" to give Fields a year as a stop-gap. But not because I think there's some chance he's going to be developed into Jayden Daniels or Lamar Jackson. He's going into his 5th NFL season. He is what he is. I'd just do it because he should be reasonably inexpensive while we build the rest of the offense, hopefully for a QB that we draft in a year or two.

And as Windy pointed out, I'm not sure that Hurts is that much better than Fields. But the talent around him sure is. Hurts is still playing.

What I REALLY want and expect, in the near-term, is to stop the embarrassing end-of-season-collapses and WC round humiliations. That can be done with Wilson or Fields or any of the other guys listed.

The standard has been destroyed. The next step towards rebuilding it, isn't even winning a playoff game as Rooney asked at the end of last season. It's simply playing a competitive game in the wildcard round.

I have my serious doubts that we can do that with this coaching staff. Tomlin has to completely re-think his approach to coordinators to get out of this rut.

Not that it would matter with Tomlin being here, but I would sign fields and move up to get a qb. This team isn’t going anywhere with Tomlin or any of those FA qbs.
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

Move up to draft a QB in this class?? LOL. Were you part of the crowd that wanted the Steelers to move up to draft Pickett just in case another team was interested?

Are you one of those guys that believe the draft gurus lists when it supports your view but then say they don’t know anything when the Steelers reach for a player they had way down their list?

Bring back Fields, try to get a guy like Ewers or Dart on day 2, preferably round 3. I guess I’d be OK with Will Howard, but that’s a day 3 pick.

Impending free agent QB Russell Wilson says talks on new contract have started with Steelers

                    Jan. 22, 2025

Russell Wilson not only wants to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025, but the veteran quarterback said the team has taken steps toward making that happen. Appearing on the ESPN’s “Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday afternoon, Wilson said discussions have started on a new contract. “We have been starting

I would only take Wilson from that list but also only if Tomlin isn't HC so in other words I wouldn't take any of them since it won't matter.

Given what we know, I hope DK is right.

But I also think it's worth remembering that at this time last year, most (including DK IIRC) were talking about how it was a done deal that Kenny was coming back and the team was going to do what it could to "continue doing business" with Mason.

Russ is officially a Pro Bowl quarterback now so that should be enough to help make his case to stay in Pittsburgh.
Obviously the standard is the standard.

There are no QBs worth a big contract. This is one time that I advocate the Steelers go the cheapest route, whatever that is. Paying Russ an even reasonable contract seems pointless.

Isn't Mason Rudolph a free agent right now? I think we would have done the same or better in 2024 with Mason at the helm. Sign whoever is less expensive, Mason or Fields. And keep going with cheap while building the line until a QB becomes available in the draft.

Milroe struggling vs. air in Mobile. Dude is really raw as a passer, they’d better not take him at 1.21.
