This is what Art will do.

A couple of days ago I put out a thread about what Art should do. I offered a possible out for Art to move on from Mike Tomlin and his 3 year contract. It doesn't appear that he will do anything different . Mike Tomlin is the Coach. That's the Steeler way. Art is going to go out living the Steeler Way.

The Steeler way is running the ball with big backs. We drafted Franco. We acquired The Bus. There was Bam Morris. Wasn't Tim Worley a big guy? We had Willie Parker but he fell into our laps.

We drafted Najee, a big guy, but he didn't pan out. Therein lies what we will do. We will draft a RB very soon in the draft or we will acquire one. Who that is I don't know but that's what Art will do. That may buy some understanding from a clearly pissed off fan base and that is what Art knows.

I read something this morning saying Art was going to hang on until Mike Tomlin's contract was up. He would then retire and turn the rebuild over to his son. Dan , Art I'm not sure what the son's name is. The new generation would then do the rebuild.

I thought about it and it seems logical to go with a RB as top priority. I suppose Art has a right to go out his way . Like the song says, " The record shows, I took the blows, and did it my way.

Somebody needs to alert Rooney that 1975 was 50 years ago. There is exactly 1 'power back' in the NFL now, and he may be the best RB ever. So finding another Henry, or even another Bus is slim to none.

But you're right, Art is thinking 'man, just think if we had a big RB like Henry. Look what he did to us!' He's far too dumb to invest in WRs, like every other team has done. We'll just find one in the 4th or 5th round (cause since we hit on AB, we're awesome at it). Speaking of WRs, didn't we draft one this year in like the 3rd round? He couldn't beat out scrubs like Van Jefferson?

          Here’s what will happen.
They will come out with some BS about having a good year but falling short. They will blame a couple areas. They will fire a couple nobodies to act like they really are trying. They will promise to address a certain area. They will also say it was the first year with a new OC and Qb. We need time to gel. They will hire another couple scrubs that they brag up.
basically the same stuff they said and did the past 10 years.
the Tomlin fans and gullible steeler fans will eat this up. Every draft pick will be great (again) and a perfect fit for what this team wants to do.
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

My opinion is we keep doing what we been doing we'll keep getting what we been getting. 9-8 , 10-7 ...1 n done. The chance that coach T wins a Super Bowl in next 2 years I would place at almost ZERO.

And Art II will be OK with that.

If Jeanty is on the board and they draft another plodder, fans should just refuse to show up.

If that is the case, I’m guessing the plan is for him to pass Noll on the all time wins list, which might explain the high floor game plan.

Rooney does not want to be known as the owner that fired or traded Tomlin. That would besmirch the Rooney name.

I think the team's business model has been to try to make the playoffs as often as possible since at least Cowher was hired.

I in the perennial goal of "try to win the superbowl every year", the emphasis is "every year". That they believe that the best way to win the superbowl is to get to the playoffs.

You hear players and coaches say this kind of thing. Something like:

"The ultimate goal is to win the SB.

"To do that you have to make the playoffs.

"The best way to make the playoffs is to win the division."

Well we better find a way to move on from coach T. And it should be done respectfully. Move him to an executive role and keep him aboard in that aspect. Organization wins having him around. Team wins (wins more) with an upgrade in coaching. MT wins in that he goes out with his head held high and perhaps aids us in our next Super Bowl but in a different role.
We are going to crash n burn if we keep heading down this death spiral path that we are on.

I like Najee, but it wasn't working out. I think the big, bruising back idea CAN work- if our other key areas are in place. We need to dominate on DEFENCE first & foremost- when you pay BIG for Watt, Fitzpatrick, Queen, Heyward....you are not paying for an OK defence.

We need to maximise the pass rush & solidify the middle in run defence.

THEN- a ball control offence can work. Fields & Wilson are servicable QB's. IF we can run for 4ypc on the regular.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

                          Light up the darkness.

It's best when the big bruising back also has good vision and decision making. And can also break huge runs.

Guys like Henry and Chubb were like this.

Even Bettis could "get skinny" late in games and break off big runs. In his final year (@ age 32 and "undisclosed" weight) Bettis had a long run of 39 yards. This would be the longest run of Najee's career.

I like Najee as a person. I also like that he doesn't fumble and has been very durable. But he's not very impactful.

It's not all on Najee because the OL and the passing game have also struggled while he's been here. But we've tried so hard to be a running team since we drafted him. But we really haven't been good at rushing in that time frame.

If Art is deep down, a passionate fan like most of us are, he should be so incensed right now that he's willing to force major changes. Given our history, THAT loss was so un-Steelers-like, so un-Pittsburgh-like. It was a demoralizing beatdown of epic proportions. Art should feel humiliated by Baltimore.

Tomlin was so smug in that one interview about his decision to switch to Russ, saying, "That's why I'm highly-compensated". Well, his highly-compensated behind should be being chewed out by Art for that appalling performance in the wild card, against our biggest rivalry that supposedly, we know better than any other team.

If he's not going to get rid of Tomlin until his contract is over, he's got to force some other very significant coaching changes and force Tomlin to give up some control. Brian Flores would have been so perfect for the defense. And a similar personality as offensive coordinator is needed.
