Report: Steelers have no plans to move on from Mike Tomlin

Report: Steelers have no plans to move on from Mike Tomlin

    Published January 12, 2025

On Saturday, the Steelers lost their sixth consecutive postseason game. They have not won a playoff game since 2016, with five one-and-done appearances since then.

The 28-14 loss to the Ravens has Mike Tomlin under further scrutiny.

If he coached anywhere other than Pittsburgh, Tomlin’s job security likely would be in serious question. But the Steelers pride themselves on having hired only three coaches since 1969.

And Tomlin is expected to return for a 19th season, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Sunday, as the Steelers once again are expected to attempt to fix their problems with solutions that don’t involve Tomlin.

Tomlin, the longest-tenured coach in the NFL, signed a three-year extension before the 2024 season that ties him to the Steelers through the 2027 season.

Tomlin is 183-107-2 in the regular season but 8-11 in the postseason, and his eight one-and-done playoff appearances is within one of the NFL record of Marty Schottenheimer. He has one Super Bowl win and another AFC championship

      Not surprised in the least.
How is it possible to have the best owner, best front office, best gm, best HC, good/great drafts every year and good FA acquisitions every year, but only have 3 playoff wins in 14 years?

If Dulac reported it I'll wait for confirmation.

They''ll never, ever get rid of Tomlin. They Rooney's are more interested in politics and wokeness than actually winning. And as long as us rubes keep handing our money to them, there's no reason to change anything

Art II is content with the 6 Lombardies in the trophy case. Unless and until the revenue stream begins to suffer, don't look for him to enact any meaningful kind of change

This means nothing, the season just ended and Rooney is not going to show his hand regardless of whatever is going on within the organization or with Tomlin. Tomlin isn't getting fired, we all know that, but there could be discussions let's say. We'll see, I honestly find it hard to picture him returning next season, I mean what is the point really.

He has approximately 15 million reasons to show up next year.

Exactly what I was going to say.

Plus, I think he wants to surpass Noll's mark for all time wins as a Steelers' HC. He needs 26 more wins to do that. At 9-8 per season, that means he'll be coaching here for 3 more years to meet that goal.

Nothing is going to change. How many times have we seen this?
rooney and Tomlin will come out and babble some crap excuse, make some empty promises about how things will be different next year and the fools will jump up and defend them.
                    rinse, repeat every January.

                      Sad, but predictable.

Someone said that "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"...

The locker room is turning on Tomlin. Pickens, and Porter to name two. Unless we are okay with no playoff wins for NINE years move now!

Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

as predictable as an off guard run on 2nd and 10 for a 1 yard gain...........

                          2014 MNF EXEC CHAMPION!!!

MT won't get fired imho. If he's just burnt out then they could come to a respectful parting of ways. No embarrassment just a nice easy parting and time to move on.
Flores and Johnson two top potential coaches available IF it happened. Though change is not easy it's time.

COMPLETELY agree with everything. That's the only way Tomlin is not with us in 2025. Respectful parting of ways. And it's pretty easy to implement, assuming Tomlin is ready to let go.
