Florio: Loss could end Russell Wilson’s career

Along those lines, if the O starts slow again and they fall behind, how long if at all until Fields comes in?

Russell Wilson, as quarterbacks do, has defined the Pittsburgh Steelers’ season so far. On Saturday, he will also largely define whether their season is over or not. That day, they play as a Wild Card team in the opening round of the playoffs. If Wilson doesn’t play well, the Steelers simply will not win. And […]

It's the same broadcast where he said Tomlin could be fired if he loses in the first round. Lots of opinions out there.

The Wilson thing is much more likely, Tomlin isn’t going anywhere, but all the flowers people were giving Russ 4-5 weeks ago, including Schlereth, have shriveled up and died.

Because he's played pretty poorly. 4 games is a significant part of the season.

And lets not forget who is was who started him.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

What about Fields history makes you think he would have been appreciably better?

I get that you want to blame everything on Tomlin, but that kind of fanatical devotion makes it hard to agree with you when you have reasonable points. The broken clock that's always pointing to the same thing.

Was a good decision to switch to Russ until they buttoned up the game plan again. May as well run the rock fight offense with the better run threat.

I doubt Tomlin switches back to Fields unless Wilson gets injured, or for a gadget play. Tomlin has to show why he is “very well compensated.”

That is what is so frustrating about Tomlin. He made a good decision switching from Fields to Russell, AND his explanation of wanting to see if offense could take a step toward a championship made you think he wanted a more balanced offensive attack knowing Fields couldnt throw as accurate or read defenses as well. Then after Russell took the offense up a level, Tomlin & Smith regressesed the offense back to a more conservative run first & second offense that would probably suit Fields better. Like WTF!!

To sum up what was said. No matter who wins, everybody is going to be fired.

                      R. Wilson can't run, does not have the urge to risk things, does not use the middle of the field, and falls into sacks.

At least Fields can move so for now he is the better choice.

He is not appreciatively better though..

I think we've seen that it's close to a push.

Which is why at this point I would try to extend Fields over Wilson because (1) he's much younger and (2) I think he'll be significantly cheaper too.

I agree with this Windy. I think the poor pass protection is playing a role, but there are a lot of ways to slow that rush down. I'm seeing very little in the way of play calling to do that - at least in this losing streak. It looks like the coaches decided the best way to slow the rush was to establish the run at all costs and it just hasn't worked. Like I stated in another thread, I think the only way the Steelers win on Saturday is by being more aggressive with the passing game - particularly on early downs. If they're going to go down, then at least go out guns a blazin'!

I hope that we actually try to pass more this weekend.

I don't think our run game is strong. So just running up against a wall isn't a good strategy.

I think we can surprise them if we come out passing on early downs.

And maybe it will lead to fewer 3rd and longs.
