Try to build something around Benton, Herbig, Queen, Wilson, JPJ, and the return from those trades.

As it stands, the only defensive position they should be looking at in the 1st round is CB. Otherwise, they need to keep adding talent on offense.
Sorry. Wrong. We've been needing quality DL for a few years now. DL in round 1 is very HIGH possibility.

Unless you trade up. Reid saw something in Mahomes and knew he could develop him. Why don’t the Steelers take chances like that?

Because they don’t value the position. They just want a caretaker.

In his latest two-round mock draft, Dane Brugler pairs the Steelers with standout Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka at No. 21 with a CB in Round 2:

          Both needs for sure.

But I think we need a standout DL.

No matter what, I think we have more important needs that premium picks where you're reasonably hoping for a starter.

There is a ton of cap space though. So maybe we get a big outside signing. I don't know what the UFA market looks like, but of the three positions (DL, CB, WR), my guess is that it would be cheapest / best cap value to sign a high value UFA CB.

Tyliek Williams is mocked in the early 20’s, he’s an absolute stud. Wouldn’t be unhappy with either pick.

Thanks. I don't follow NCAA, so it's cool to start hearing names from people on the board!

Ultimately, I think we have too many needs that can be solved from one draft / UFA period. So I know that BPA (of 4-5 positions) should be the way to go. But I want a DL.

Our run D isn't great when Cam is in. And is awful when he's on the sidelines. And we can't keep counting on Heyward to get this many snaps.

I think we'll be less competitive in the next few years. So getting the best players and rebuilding is more important than need (again, I really want DL though).

2025 NFL draft: Steelers updated 7-round mock draft for Wild Card week

                Mon, Jan 6, 2025

The Pittsburgh Steelers might be backing into the playoffs on a four-game losing streak but we are still excited for the next game and what promises to be a very busy offseason. Here's our updated seven-round mock draft for the 2025 NFL draft for the Wild Card.

First round - DL Derrick Harmon, Oregon

Perfect understudy for Cameron Heyward and an elite prospect in his own right.

Second round - WR Elic Ayomanor, Stanford

The more we watch Ayomanor, the more we think his game would work really well with George Pickens, thanks to Ayomanor's advanced route tree.

Third round - CB Will Lee III, Texas A&M

Elite length and measurables from a sticky man-coverage cornerback.

Fourth round - WR Savion Williams, TCU

A hybrid running back/wide receiver was just too good to pass up this late in the draft.

Fifth round - RB Dylan Sampson, Tennessee

The best comparison to Sampson's game is Jaylen Warren except Sampson has elite breakaway speed to go with his agility and vision.

Seventh round - S Billy Bowman, Oklahoma

Smart, experienced player who could vault up draft boards if he tests well in the offseason.

Seventh round - OT Myles Hinton, Michigan

Massive, powerful right tackle prospect who is surprisingly athletic and agile for his size.

I would endorse this. There are more good WRs in every draft than top end talented DL

There isn't a strong enough QB option to trade up for in this draft.

Best bet is to invest more time into Fields, pairing him with someone he can potentially learn from & replace (Wilson is PROBABLY the best option TBH) & then getting other weaknesses built up.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

If we’re going to go for DL and maybe CB and OL, which I’m fine with, I’d trade TJ and Pickens and accumulate picks. Herbig and Highsmith could man the EDGE, sign a guy like Higgins to run with Wilson and Austin.

i.e., make this a mini rebuild. Going into the season with Fields or Russ as the starter is basically punting on a Super Bowl for another year.

I'd keep TJ. Not sure on Pickens. I'd consider the 4-3 with TJ at DE. Get another elite DE opposite him. Draft another DT in the early rounds as well. Play Queen, Highsmith, Wilson & Herbig as your 4 LB rotations with maybe Roberts added.

We need to give the QB's better reliable WR options. And we need the running game to produce consistently. The fewer 3rd & 10+ we put Wilson in, the better we are. We can't lose ground every second rush.

Fields is a better long term prospect than any other QB I see the Steelers being in position to get. It's not giving up on the position. It's not a regression from Pickett, Rudolph etc. But- we need to see Fields becoming the starting QB within a season- season & a half. Otherwise, the window is closing on him. The structuring of the QB room & contracts will be interesting.
