    Tomlin's score card.

Here is my scoring for my chart for NFL head coaches. This is take II off another post as I realise I left big categories out. They are at head coaches timeouts usage, and 4th down decisions. Coaching hires for OC and DC.

I will judge them on a 1-10 with 10 beginning HOF caliber and 1 being completely inept.

Strategy and game planning, X's and 0's, and adjustments during the game. Tomlin scores a 4 out of 10.

Head coaches timeouts usage, and 4th down decisions. Tomlin scores a 4 out of 10

Coaching hires for OC and DC. Tomlin scores a 3 out of 10. A great weakness.

Leadership and player management. Tomlin rates high on leadership and low on playmanagent. Too many Divas under his rule. 6 out of 10.

Training and Development. Injury management. A hard category to accurately judge as the information on this topic is very limited for the fans. I guess 5 out of 10. The Steelers players do not develop well in general, and the management of injuries seems rather poor.

Roster management. Tomlin does a good job here and picks the right players to make the team. Most head coaches do. 7 out of 10. The draft and free agency is mostly the GM's.

Administrative duties. 6 out if 10

Public relations and speaking to the media. 8 out of 10. Fines against his actions prevent him from rating higher.

Ownership loyalty and getting along with him/her,Tomlin scores a 9 out 10. Art Rooney II loves the man.

Winning games you are favored to and not being upset by .500 and below teams. Playing well on the road, and winning in the playoffs. Tomln rates a 4 of 10.

    Max score 100.

    Tomlin's score 56

A very slightly above average head coach.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Homey I admire your persistence. How many different ways can you say sh*t can Mike Tomlin now.

I suppose, had an internet been in existence in the late 1980's there would have been an outcry for getting rid of Chuck Noll. Look how long it took for Coach Noll to move on.

I think it will take mediocre seasons to the end of Coach Tomlin's present contract to see him move on. I'm hoping he can put it together but I must admit I'm having my ready doubts about his ability to do so.

Leadership / Player Management at 6/10 is certainly a take...

Nor have I for the past four years.

Strategy and game planning, X's and 0's, and adjustments during the game. I'd give him a 5 out of 10.

Head coaches timeouts usage, and 4th down decisions. Again, 5 out of 10.

Coaching hires for OC and DC. Tomlin scores a 3 out of 10. A great weakness. Agreed on this.

Leadership and player management. I go higher than you on this, because his leadership is so good. 8 out of 10.

Training and Development. Injury management. Yes, I agree, hard to evaluate, but I would give 7 out of 10.

Roster management. 7 out of 10 sounds about right.

Administrative duties. 10 out of 10. I have no reason to believe he is doing anything wrong here.

Public relations and speaking to the media. 10 out of 10.

Ownership loyalty and getting along with him/her. 10 out of 10. As you say, Rooney loves him; can't get a higher score.

Winning games you are favored to and not being upset by .500 and below teams. Playing well on the road, and winning in the playoffs. Really, three different categories. I'd go 6 of 10 on the first, 6 of 10 on the second, and 3 out of 10 on the third, for an average of 5 out of 10.

My total for Tomlin is 70. Good, but not great.

you can't have one of the highest winning percentages and lose a bunch of games you are favored in. The reality is Tomlin wins most games he should win but when he loses vs a "bad" team we remember it and when we beat "bad" teams Tomlin haters criticize him for not taking a timeout before the half and act like its the worst move ever and almost cost us the game.

                  tldr..

                  this thread is weird.

I think it's a much better thread than just saying, "Fire Tomlin". This is listing out what people think are his strengths and weaknesses.

Personally, I think the biggest weakness is coaching hires. He seems unwilling or unable to bring in good coordinator talent and let them do their thing. A bit of a control freak maybe. I don't think he's ever going to be known for having a modern/innovative offense.

Likey it is. Game strategy, adjustments, X and 0's. as well as dealing with divas which I think his culture helps create are his major draw backs.

Thanks to all who added some detials to the thread.

I think all coaches have to deal with Divas. Guys coming out of college now and getting drafted have huge egos. I'm not sure that Tomlin creates them anymore than any other team. And if you look at how long he managed AB, you might even say that dealing with divas is a strength of Tomlin's.

Yes, that is true. But the amount of divas he has is well above the norm. You must ask yourself why this is so.

Well with all of the other teams lining up to hire away most of our coaching staff, we could be building anew staff this off season. .. oh wait that doesn’t happen here.
