    Graphics To Ponder

First, let me post a couple of graphics. Then I'll give you my interpretation of them:

    OFFENSE:

    DEFENSE:

Looking at the offense (top chart) it's obvious that the Steelers have more wins than would be implied by the league average trend. Perhaps it's because the defense was far better than the league? But when you look at the second chart, the Steelers defense falls right on the line where you would expect based on points against.
Going back to the first chart, the other way to look at it is that the offense scored far fewer points than the league trend would imply for the total wins they had (a better defense). But we already said the points against looks like it produced about the right number of wins based on the league trend.

Still, something doesn't appear quite right. KC in particular looks like an enigma. What is going on?

KC spends well. The very things I advocated fo years. Dont overspend on backs and receivers, invest more on defense. This works if you have an elite QB.

Contrary to common myth, as your chart notes their offense is not tearing up the league. QB does what’s needed to win (just like early Ben). The Chiefs have a top DEFENSE that is supplemented by clutch QB play.

For us, beyond your chart, until recently our turnover ratio was through the roof (which happens nearly every year) which is why our record will always be better than these charts.

Considering these factors the chart makes sense.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

Good points Captain. KC (and Brady NE) can skimp on receivers when you have GOAT QBs. And honestly, CIN could probably skimp as well with Burrow. They are paying the price on defense of having a franchise QB and franchise WR contract on offense.

Agree with Cappy, too — just keep drafting RBs and WRs, don’t pay for their 2nd deals unless they’re generational, OL, defense, QB is where the money goes.

KC won 6 games this year ON THE LAST PLAY OF THE GAME.

          That is the difference.

Baltimore TD overturned because a toenail was out of bounds.

KC banged a game winning FG off the upright.

KC blocked a game wining FG attempt.

KC benefitted from a long PI on a 4th down to set up a game winning FG vs Cincinnati.

All the bounces have gone their way this year.

Oh boy...the bald truth is our QB's do not play well vs. winning teams. We need to draft a quarterback. Period! End of sentence, close the book

We need a better starting RB ( Harris sucks as the starter ) and better tackle ( hopefully Fautnu ) In free agency, a solid but cheap Wide Receiver will do.

And most importantly get rid of Tomlin. His new car smell disappeared 7 years ago...

Our new head coach can bring in his DC. And hopefully bring his skills to the offense.

            That is how I " C " it.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Once we get to the playoffs, I don't think they can keep getting all the bounces their way. I don't see them winning it all again. It's time for someone else. If it's not us (LOL), then I'm rooting for Detroit.

All the bounces went away from the Chiefs last year, and they rode the WC path to another chip. Now their offense is getting healthy, their D is legit good, and they have the GOAT QB and maybe HC at home for the playoffs.

I think they’re odds on favorites to win the AFC now.
