    Defensive Scheme

Watt & Highsmith were passrushing the entire game. It takes at least 2 seconds to get to the QB & Mahomes was throwing within 1 second 90% of the time. So we basically played 9-11. Should have had in more DBS or dropped them into coverage. Worst D gameplan since LeBeau vs Tebow in the playoffs!

To state the obvious, defense is Tomlin’s specialty. Kelce was uncovered more often than not.

Queen and Wilson were supposed to be our best pass coverage ILBs since Shazier, MOF wide open to TEs all game.

The guys love Tomlin, but they’re not well-coached.

It was not the players. We blitzed every play & played 9-11 as i already stated. If you disagree make a statement why instead of blaming players that were under maned. KC would send 2 players flood into a zone with 1 behind the other so that Queen & company take the first guy & the second goes uncovered because we sent too many players after Mahomes. This was very obvious to anyone that understands schemes.

If an offense throws almost every play within 1 second short, you have to cover & not blitz. We never adjusted as a coaching staff.

So you wanted to rush 2 and drop 9 into coverage? The EDGE rushers rush the passer, that has nothing to do with leaving the MOF vacated.

          Learn ball.

Rush 3 drop 8 for what they were doing. Not 4-5.

              Our defensive scheme was offensive.

Watt and highsmith rushing is not a blitz.

Steelers are near last in the league in blitzing on the season.

This scheme where we don’t cover the best TE in football is just weird.

Teams that struggle all year doing things cure their woes against us.

I said it before and I will say it again. Watt is an amazing player but we aren’t winning against good teams with him. Its time to blow up this expensive defense. It simply can’t win games down the stretch. We can win early when healthy but once teams find their identities they make us look foolish.

It really just comes down to missed opportunities, we arent getting on the loose balls, we aren't catching the ints and we started turning the ball over and getting badly timed penalties. Also putting Sutton, Trice, and Pierre into the secondary has resulted in a ton of mistakes. We just need to take a breath and get ourselves right in the last game, build some momentum heading into the playoffs.

Someone on another board compared Queen to Spillane this season. So I had to check... things that make you go hmmm....

Of course, we need to take advantage of opportunities... and of course, having your backup DBs playing more is going to mean a greater likelihood of making mistakes.

                        However

Coaching is not doing near enough to help put our D in position to succeed
I agree with the OP, failing to make the necessary defensive adjustments when Mahomes was getting the ball out so quickly, that's inexcusable. And what about the breakdowns in communication? Why are we always/still having these issues?

This team needs to do more than just take a deep breath ... yes, the players need to capitalize on turnover opportunities and carry out their assignments, but coaching needs to do a better job (both sides of the ball) if we are going to have a chance to win in the playoffs.

In spite of the injuries -- every team has to deal with them -- this team is talented enough that they should be able to make a run.

The big mistake was playing so much zone, Mahomes and Kelce chew that up. KC is way down in air yards/attempt this year, we played them like Tyreek Hill was taking the top off the defense.

Which again goes back to Tomlin’s top priority in every aspect of the game: minimizing negativity.

If you have 3 defensice lineman rushing & your 2 OLBS that is a blitz my friend.

Ya know i heard the Steelers are petioning the NFL to let them have 2 OLBS rush & another 2 stay back so that when teams throw over the pass rushing OLB every play to a TE or RB or slot guy THERE IS ANOTHER OLB there to help!!!!! Also helps on outside runs too as Watt & Highsmith rarely have outside containment.

So true. Vs Browns Elliot was on the TE Njoku and blanketed him. didn't really even see Elliot in the game yesterday
