    An Injury That Hurts!

Some of yinz might have noticed that C Austin has emerged as the go to WR2 in this offense. In fact, Austin has 3 perfect and 1 near perfect passer ratings games when targeted this season. If he misses time with the concussion, it's probably going to be Skoronek. He might be ok, but he's not CAIII.

Amen, amazing what happens with a little patience and allowing the player to learn the trade. He got rocked multiple times yseterday but made catches. I hope he's okay.

The Steelers did not need to give up a lot to acquire a receiver. I am glad we didn't. Austin is dangerous player and on who hits big plays.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

He is going to be one sore dude today. He took some brutal punishment yesterday.

I hope he's OK to play against the Browns.

But I think it's a stretch to say that missing CAIII is a big blow to the team.

I do think he's probably the best WR of the group of WR3/4 guys we have. But they're all still WR3/4 types. But Jefferson is the better blocker so he plays more (63% to CAIII's 47%)

And being the better WR matters less if you don't get targets.

Here are the number of targets / receptions he's had in the last 5 games (reverse chronological):
          • 2/2
          • 3/3
          • 2/1
          • 6/2
          • 4/3
          • 4/1
          • 5/2
          • 2/1
          • 1/1
          • 5/4
          • 2/1
          • 2/1
He's been good in the last two games (5/5 ~ 110 yards, 2 TDs). But not much before that.

Austin has been really solid, more of a complete receiver than I thought he was, hope he gets on the field for the Browns.

I like what the announcer said: Austin is tougher than shoe leather.

With that being said, Wilson did serve a few hospital balls to him.

                This.

                Not what you'd expect from a guy who's 5-9 162.

With Austin, it just isn't about how good he is, but that his speed forces the D to take notice. I think the coaches are still figuring out ways to get him involved, other than just running the 9 route. Especially against a D like the Browns next week, you need to get the ball out quicker and not just wait for your speed guy to get behind the D.

well, we figured out what he can’t do is run underneath. He was punished yesterday.

Austin was tied with Muth in yards going into the game yesterday. They were averaging the same yds/gm. Muth was targeted 6 times yesterday, Austin 2 times. On a per reception basis they came out close to the same.

Jefferson is a distant 3rd in yards.

Is Calvin Austin Becoming The Next Tyler Lockett In Russell Wilson's Pittsburgh Steelers Offense?

he's taken advantage of his opportunities and has turned in a very solid year thus far. His speed is a legitimate threat that must be accounted for. I agree he's not (currently) playing at a WR1 or even WR2 level - but his development and trajectory are heading that way and he could easily be an even stronger bookend to GP as the season winds down.

here's hoping he exits the protocol soon.

I think he finally has a QB who sees the field. He’s been allegedly getting open for a while and guys don’t pull the trigger.

Unfortunately, the same QB threw him a couple hospital balls on Sunday.
