Preston Smith: Game 1

Lots being said about Williams' first game because of the beautiful TD.

Here's Smith's line from yesterday: 1 sack. 3 tackles (all solo). 2 TFLs. 1 QB hit.

And we're going to need him with Highsmith out and Herbig hopefully phasing back in. As we go into a pivotal 4 game stretch.

I was scratching my head a bit at this signing at first. But Omar demonstrates that he's smarter than me (again).

Didn't realize his stat line was this good. I knew he blew up the trick play but didn't realize he had this type of impact all game.

My wish was that teams would focus on Highsmith and Watt which meant he would have more room to work and by the stat line it sure looks like this is what happened since both OLB's had zero tackles.

“These dudes are relentless as hell,” Smith said. “I love the mindset and the dawg mentality. It’s not one person with the dawg mentality, it’s everybody. Those are great people to be around.”

You forgot the most important part of the stat line. All those plays on just 23 snaps on defense!

EDIT: btw, Packers media called the trade a salary cap move. Smith's contract was going to balloon next season and in 2026 to near Watt's pay. That is a lot of $$. The real question for me is whether Smith can keep up the pace for the remainder of the season.
