    Preston Smith Anyone?

Traded to Steelers for a 7th round pick. TBH, I am feeling better about this trade than the Williams. Eight sacks last season, Watt can't continue to play 90+% of snaps and be healthy for the post season.

More options at LB are always a good thing.

This makes a bit more sense than the Williams trade and we had an extra 7th round pick in the deal we sent Pickett to the Eagles.

I still hate trading the future picks away.

Also, maybe Herbig isn't ready to come back either.

Smith is 25 lbs heavier than Herbig. This could make a big difference when facing Henry and Chubb in 2X division games. Steelers need to be able to stop the run against the Ravens.

This is an interesting pick up. Maybe he is just OLB4 but maybe not. He is listed as 265lbs but that's usually not updated as guys get older. Can he fill in on the line at all? Maybe a hybrid big backer, small lineman guy?

looks like a rental for just this season.

no way do we pay him what he's due the next 2 years unless he's willing to restructure.

He is like gone next year.
Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in seven years and counting. The earliest will be eight years. I guess that in Art Rooney's II, opinion is worth a 3 year extension.

Our 2024 draft looks to be grade A. Our 2023 draft is an A. The roster is talented, but Mike Tomlin is still the head coach.

*** Mike Tomlin is the best coach since the AFL- NFL merger that has not won a playoff game in 8 seasons or more. It's either him or Lewis. ***

Agreed, smart pickup by the Steelers.

As soon as the Ravens or Browns would see either Herbig or Moon on the field, they would pound Henry and Chubb right at them.

Steelers acquire DE Preston Smith from Packers for 7th-round pick

The Steelers traded for Mike Williams, but they weren’t done. They wanted to bolster their defense, so they did so by acquiring Preston Smith for a seventh-round pick.

Getting Smith a couple of years ago would have been much better because Smith is no longer the dominant pass rusher he once was. He’s seen his snap count decrease in recent weeks, and he’s recorded just three sacks this year. Still, he’ll be able to help with the pass-rushing depth, which took a hit because of some injuries. I like this move for Pittsburgh.

As mentioned, Smith was playing less and less for the Packers, so I understand the trade. Still, if I were the Packers, I’d rather have the edge-rushing depth than a mere seventh-round pick.

                      Grade for Steelers – B+
                      Grade for Packers – C+

Good call. Unless he wants to take a paycut instead of going to UFA.

But hopefully we're confident in UFAs or draft picks that are younger next offseason.

Makes sense if Herbig is going to be out longer, otherwise would have preferred a run stuffer in the middle.

Green Bay doesn't have Watt and Highsmith so maybe this guy can feast in rotations in the second half just like Herbig once the starters wear down the OT's.
