    Washington > Miller

    Steelers TE coach let slip this week that Darnell Washington is 300+ lbs! His listed weight is ~265 lbs. That's an OT in a TE suit.

    But Washington is so much more;

    I love it when he gets the ball. Fun to watch.

      Wonder if we'll regret panic-signing Muth to $12M a year when this guy could be another Eric Green.

        Muth > Washington

        Washington is a mad bull, but other than leaping over a tackler have you seen any move to make a tackler miss.

        Muth's toolbox has much more in it

          I don't think we will.

          The Muth deal was pretty much the lowest contract you could sign a guy for and not let him walk to see what UFA looks like. That's what it means when you are ~ 10th highest AAV at signing.

          I do think that we should use him more in the passing game. But I also think that he's a "poor man's Heath" in that he's also doing a stuff that isn't him catching balls.

          But I do think we should be giving him more targets.

          But I also think he's being hurt by Smith's rep-league attitude of getting everyone in. Apparently we're back to not playing Muth in 12 personnel. Which seems silly to me.

          DK was talking to Ramon about this on the last Ramon podcast. And Scout's Eye is where I heard about not playing him in 12.

            Why bother making a tackler miss when you can run right through him?

              Muth and DW make a solid combo.
              This tape shows how good DW's feet are in positioning himself to get into position to wall off. Now he was a bit slow in his get off a year ago and that caused him to be late on some blocks and get out positioned. He has improved in that aspect. He locks on it's game over. Power at the POA and good hand use. His hands are also good as a receiver. At camp he often beat our ILB"S in the pass game. He can hands catch and he is an obvious load. Plays where he chips and hits the flat will keep D coordinators up at night because he's a tough match up on both ends and though he is not Bowers as a receiver he can be a functional receiver in a limited capacity.
              Lets hope he doesn't grow out of the TE position although we did well with Larry Brown years ago for those old timers who remember him catching a Super Bowl TD and then becoming a top OT.

                I love to see his reaction when a runner gets into the EZ. He's often the first one there and seems just as happy to block for someone else to score.
