    Give Danny Smith Some Love

He deservedly gets a lot of heat from fans but after this game he deserves a high five:

Why was his heat deserved? I never understood all the hate he gets.

Our team was among the best in blocking kicks BEFORE this game and scheming THAT up is the part of special teams that is more coach than raw talent.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

They've been bottom half of the league in punt return yards against for nearly a decade.

The blocks are a new thing that appeared a few seasons ago.

Wonder who the last team was that blocked 3 kicked in 3 games?

Why does he deserve heat? His teams have blocked more kicks than any other in the league the past few years.

I never understood the venom he got other than beating on him is a backhanded way to criticize Tomlin for keeping him

My IT guy said NC == Alex K!

Because no one loves Danny Smith like Alex loves Danny Smith.

Will Danny "Mad-Dog" Smith come up with some sort of strategy for the new kick-offs over the break?

                      Let the mad genius work.

BTW, did we get a break on the PR TD by Calvin? Some are saying we roughed the kicker, others that there was no contact and a flop.

I only saw the replay once, the contact looked to me minimal, with an academy award worthy flop. I could be wrong, I only saw it once.

                          It was a good non-call.

I think the broadcast team said that it looked like minimal contact and that the was blocked into the kicker.

Probably a good example of the subjectivity of the game.

                            Reasonable to not call it.

Also would have been reasonable to call it.

I think it's always worth remember the breaks that go our way, so we aren't just thinking about the ones that don't (like the apologies we've gotten from the league re: Minkah in the last few weeks).

What would have happened if it was a flag? Offsetting penalties? Or would the personal foul take precedence over their penalty (illegal formation?).

Obviously even offsetting penalties would have really sucked for us because it would have taken another TD off the board for a penalty (happened for both teams last night IIRC).

When Austin was running, I couldn't even get excited because I was CONVINCED that we were going to get a roughing the kicker penalty. I think Danny Smith thought the same thing. He refused to celebrate until he saw what the flags were for.
