Woodley Could Start Thursday Against Cleveland

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said linebacker Lamarr Woodley suffered no setback to his recovery from a hamstring injury and he could potentially start Thursday night against Cleveland.

Woodley had missed three straight games to a hamstring injury and returned Sunday but left in the first half and did not return. Speculation was that he reaggravated the injury, but Tomlin said he’s not ready to declare anything about the injury until Woodley practices.

“I don’t know if you want to characterize it as a setback at this point,” Tomlin said in his press conference Monday. “I think that the week will provide that legitimate information for us.

“Obviously, he felt something, and he was mature enough to not do any further damage to it. We appreciate that. We will see if that provides an opportunity for us to put him in play this week.”

Linebacker Jason Worilds will start if Woodley is unable to go. Either way, Woodley could see limited time as Tomlin said the game plan was to limit his participation in his first game back.

Other injury news:

  • Offensive guard Ramon Foster sprained his ankle Sunday against Cincinnati and his status for Thursday night is questionable.
  • Wide receiver Arnaz Battle (hamstring) and linebacker Chris Carter (hamstring) have both already been ruled out for Thursday.
  • Tomlin was optimistic that linebacker Larry Foote (hamstring) could return Thursday night.
  • Nose tackle Chris Hoke (neck) and running back Jonathan Dwyer (foot) met with doctors Monday. The results have not yet been released.
