GM Kevin Colbert Represented Steelers Wednesday At Alabama Pro Day

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert was present for the 2012 University of Alabama pro day Wednesday as were reps for the other 31 teams in the league. While several draft worthy players worked out for all in attendance, one could easily speculate that Colbert was there to mostly watch linebacker Dont'a Hightower, who reportedly only went through a few of the drills and focused more on the position workouts. Hightower did improve his combine vertical jump by one inch Wednesday, as he leaped 33 inches. He also turned in a 9 foot 9 inch broad jump as well. He did not bench press Wednesday Read more [...]

Woodley a Full Go in Wednesday Practice; Should Play Sunday vs Bengals

All signs seem to be finally pointing in the right direction for linebacker LaMarr Woodley to be able to take the field Sunday when the 8-3 Steelers play host to Andy Dalton and the Bengals at Heinz Field.

Woodley was a full participant in practice Wednesday, and report are he should be able return from a hamstring injury that has forced him to miss three games.

“I’m getting there,” said Woodley, according to the team’s website. “I was out there practicing again today. I felt pretty good on it. We will wait and see throughout the week. It’s the most I have done. I felt good so we’ll have to see. Each day I am getting better. I am day-to-day.”

Woodley, who is tied for second in the AFC with nine sacks, wouldn’t go on record though about playing in the big AFC North contest as the Steelers try and stay pace with the Ratbirds.

“We’ll see about that,” he said. “Throughout the week hopefully I just get better and come close to Sunday we’ll see.”

Safety Troy Polamalu, who Mike Tomlin said has no symptoms from a possible concussion against the Chiefs on Sunday night, did not practice. Center Maurkice Pouncey (illness), and linebacker Chris Carter (hamstring) also did not practice on Wednesday, while receiver Arnaz Battle (hamstring) and linebacker Larry Foote (hamstring) were limited.

LaMarr Woodley Is a Full Participant in Practice Wednesday

Steelers Outside Linebacker LaMarr Woodley practiced fully for the first time since injuring his hamstring 4 weeks ago.  Woodley went through a full team practice.  He said, “It’s the most I have done. I felt good so we’ll have to see. Each day I am getting better.”  Woodley listed himself as day to day.
Woodley down played his status for this weekend.  His response to being asked if he was going to play this weekend was. “We’ll see about that.”  Woodley seems to be trying not to get anyones hopes up just in case he does not get to suit up against Cincinnati.
This being Woodley’s first full practice, tomorrow will be a big day when he wakes up.  How he feels in the morning and whether or not he can do more tomorrow will go a long way in determining if Woodley can play this weekend.  If he feels any real soreness in the morning it could put a stop to moving him forward.  We should know a lot more about his status tomorrow.

LaMarr Woodley Practices Wednesday, Is Expected To Play Week 13 Vs. Cincinnati

Photo

Steelers LOLB LaMarr Woodley had a full practice Wednesday, and is expected to return to the field for the first time since Week 8.

It comes at a great time for the Steelers, who host 7-4 Cincinnati.

Pittsburgh defeated the Bengals 24-17 in Week 10 despite not generating a huge amount of pressure on rookie QB Andy Dalton. He sliced through the Steelers defense on a few drives, as fellow OLB James Harrison was left mostly on his own to get to the passer.

Woodley and Harrison have not played together since the early part of a Week 4 loss at Houston. Harrison fractured an orbital bone in his eye during that game, and missed four straight starts. Woodley missed Weeks 9, 10 and 12 (bye in Week 11) with a hamstring injury.

Woodley was on a tear before the injury, racking up at least 1.5 sacks in four consecutive games. He even had two sacks against the Patriots in Week 8 before suffering the injury. He was October's AFC Defensive Player of the Month.

Having the Steelers defense back to full strength will be critical in their late-season drive for both a playoff berth and possibly a division championship. Early week prognosis on SS Troy Polamalu is positive, meaning the Steelers could field their most complete defensive starting unit since the beginning of the season.
