Mike Wallace’s cap number in 2013 is only $3.25 million

Often, when only general details emerge regarding a big contract, the truth ends up undercutting the perception created by the deal. Here are the full details, per a…...</p

Report: Steelers won’t reduce Mike Wallace’s tender

Getty Images
Today is the only day that the Pittsburgh Steelers can reduce wide receiver Mike Wallace’s restricted free agent tender from $ 2.72 million to $ 577,000.
According to Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the Steelers have already decided to not slash a large chunk of Wallace’s salary for 2012, even though he still hasn’t signed his tender.
“That’s never been an intention of ours,” Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert told 105.9 The X’s Mark Madden yesterday, per the Tribune-Review. “When we tendered Mike at the amount we did, the compensation through that tender, we really had no issue with that whatsoever because he is deserving of that.”
Coltbert made it clear that they want Wallace to sign a long-term deal with the Steelers.
“We want him to get a long-term deal that he deserves and I am real confident that we will be able to do that because when both sides want the same thing, it is only a matter of time,” Colbert said.
The problem is that ...

Steelers can, apparently won’t, reduce Wallace’s tender today

Maybe NFL owners aren’t are ruthless as they seem. With the labor deal giving the Steelers the ability on June 15 to remove receiver Mike Wallace’s $ 2.7 million restricted free agency tender and replace it with an offer of $ 577,500 for one year of football, the Steelers by all signs and indications won’t do it.…

Steelers Leave Wallace’s Offer On The Table

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — The Pittsburgh Steelers had the opportunity to lower wide receiver Mike Wallace’s contract offer to as low as $ 577,500 Thursday night and chose not to do so.

There was a deadline at midnight Thursday to potentially lower Wallace’s offer, which is set at $ 2.7 million for the coming season, but the Steelers let the current offer remain on the table. The franchise reportedly did so because it wants to continue to negotiate a long-term deal with Wallace.

Wallace is holding out and has not appeared at Pittsburgh’s organized team activities or this week’s mini camp.

Team President Art Rooney II addressed the situation Wednesday and said, quite simply, “He should be here.”

Wallace caught 72 passes for 1,193 yards and eight touchdowns last season.

Steelers unlikely to decrease Mike Wallace’s tender

The Steelers aren’t close to a new deal with restricted free agent Mike Wallace and he is not expected to attend mandatory minicamp later this month. However, the Steelers are committed to doing a long term deal with him and are reportedly highly unlikely to decrease Mike Wallace’s tender, something they can do on June 15th. They have the right to decrease his tender from 2.742 million to 577 thousand, but they won’t do that, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, because they feel that would be damaging to long term talks and don’t want to slap their #1 receiver in the face like that.
Mike Wallace said earlier this offseason that he was looking for Larry Fitzgerald money. Fitzgerald got 120 million over 8 years last offseason and in the time since Wallace asked for that type of money, Calvin Johnson got 132 million over 7 years. However, the Steelers probably don’t have the cap to do that type of deal even if they wanted to.
If he wants a long term deal, he’ll probably have to settle...
