Steelers can, apparently won’t, reduce Wallace’s tender today

Maybe NFL owners aren’t are ruthless as they seem. With the labor deal giving the Steelers the ability on June 15 to remove receiver Mike Wallace’s $ 2.7 million restricted free agency tender and replace it with an offer of $ 577,500 for one year of football, the Steelers by all signs and indications won’t do it.…

Steelers unlikely to decrease Mike Wallace’s tender

The Steelers aren’t close to a new deal with restricted free agent Mike Wallace and he is not expected to attend mandatory minicamp later this month. However, the Steelers are committed to doing a long term deal with him and are reportedly highly unlikely to decrease Mike Wallace’s tender, something they can do on June 15th. They have the right to decrease his tender from 2.742 million to 577 thousand, but they won’t do that, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, because they feel that would be damaging to long term talks and don’t want to slap their #1 receiver in the face like that.
Mike Wallace said earlier this offseason that he was looking for Larry Fitzgerald money. Fitzgerald got 120 million over 8 years last offseason and in the time since Wallace asked for that type of money, Calvin Johnson got 132 million over 7 years. However, the Steelers probably don’t have the cap to do that type of deal even if they wanted to.
If he wants a long term deal, he’ll probably have to settle...

Mike Wallace doesn’t plan on signing his tender anytime soon

Jared Wickerham/Getty Images North America
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter via Evan Silva, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace isn’t going to sign his restricted free agent tender anytime soon.
“Not going to sign that restricted free agent tender anytime soon. May be awhile before they see Wallace,” said Schefter.
I’d be surprised if Wallace even shows up for the start of training camp.  He’s looking for the Steelers to lock him up with a lucrative long-term deal.  The only problem is that they don’t have a lot of cap room to work with right now.

Mike Wallace still has no plans to sign tender

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported before the draft that Steelers receiver Mike Wallace wouldn’t sign his one-year restricted free agent tender “until he has to.” While the Steelers have hoped to sign Wallace to a long-term deal, there has been no progress on that front. Schefter reiterated on NFL Live Tuesday that it “may be awhile” before…

Steelers Mike Wallace won’t sign tender “until he has to”

Mike Wallace, the biggest deep threat in football today has dug his heels in the sand and has told sources within the Steelers camp that he won’t sign his first-round tender “until he has to.” Posturing aside, Mike Wallace and those that are advising him might want to get together and have a little pow-wow.
Wallace’s entire game up until now has circled around his speed, his speed and well his speed. The Steelers have Antonio Brown on the roster for the serious route running.
New OC Todd Haley has not historically been inclined to chuck the ball deep with any kind of admirable frequency. He’s also a fire-breathing play caller that most likely already has Wallace on the wrong side of his temperament.
Wallace like Randy Moss before him is far from a one-trick pony but that is his primary connection to the team and most importantly QB Ben Roethlisberger.
Holding out right now during the conditioning part of the voluntary program is not that serious. Wa...

There’s no sign that another team is going to offer Mike Wallace a contract before the deadline to sign restricted free agents passes on April 20th, but that isn’t moving Wallace closer to signing his tender from the Steelers. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on NFL Live Wednesday that Wallace has no plans to sign…

Legursky signs RFA tender, stays with Steelers

Another day, another restricted free agent signs a one-year contract to stay with his former team. Steelers offensive linemen Doug Legursky said on his Twitter page (via Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) that Legursky has signed his tender and is now under contract for the 2012 season. Legursky, undrafted out of Marshall in 2008,…

Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receiver Mike Wallace Will Not Get the Contract That He Is Seeking, and Should Just Sign the Tender Offered to Him

So far, this offseason, no team has offered Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace a contract. The restricted free agent was offered a tender by the Steelers worth a little over $ 2.7 million, but Wallace has thus far refused to sign it.
Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said ESPN reported, “that Wallace will not participate in any spring workouts unless he and the team come to terms on a multiple-year contract.”
Bouchette also stated that the three-year veteran out of Ole Miss will be unable to sign with another team once the deadline of April 20th passes, and that he will only have the choice of a long-term deal or signing the tender with the Steelers.
In the meantime, Pittsburgh’s front office is making sure that everything else is in place offensively just in case the Pro Bowl receiver somehow doesn’t return to the Steelers for the 2012 NFL season.
Veteran receiver Jerricho Cotchery re-signed with the team with a two-year contract worth over $ 3 million dollars. ...

Steelers David Johnson Signs RFA Tender

*** Discuss this article and more at our Pittsburgh Steelers forum ***

Steelers back up tight end/fullback David Johnson signed his RFA tender according to rotoworld.  Johnson will make $ 1.26 million this season.  He will now be fighting for playing time with Leonard Pope, Weslye Saunders and Will Johnson.  Johnson has been the teams main fullback in the past few seasons.  Will Johnson may take that role this year.  With the signing of Leonard Pope, Johnson must have thought it was time to get into offseason programs to keep his job.
I am not nor have I ever been a fan of Johnson.  He is not a good blocker and he is no threat in the passing game other than teams forget about him because he never does anything.  He will be here for this season and that may be it.
