Steelers Are Fine Cap Space Wise When It Comes To Retaining Their Restricted Free Agents

Every offseason you can count on the fear and the overreaction that the Pittsburgh Steelers will lose one of their restricted free agents to another team. That fear was put on overdrive a few weeks ago when wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders visited with the New England Patriots.

While there is still a possibility that the Patriots could sign Sanders ...

Restricted free agency market still nonexistent

Last year, none of the 42 restricted free agents signed offers sheets with new teams.  This year, none of nearly 40 restricted free agents have signed offer sheets with new teams. At a certain point, the existence of an informal understanding among NFL teams to lay off each other’s restricted free agents becomes the only…

NFL, NFLPA battle could spread to 2012 restricted free agency

With the NFL and NFLPA suddenly getting along even worse than the Hatfields and the McCoys, it makes sense to think about other ways in which the fight could manifest itself. The union now claims that the teams engaged in collusion two years ago, establishing a secret $ 123 million per-team salary cap.  Though that claim…

Steelers Able To Tender Restricted Free Agents Without More Cuts Or Restructures Should They Choose

Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk posted the latest updated cap numbers of all 32 teams on Sunday and shows the Pittsburgh Steelers as being $ 10.5 million under the cap. Now in his post he says that those numbers reflect 2011 rollover cap space, which the Steelers will use, and franchise tags amounts, which the Steelers of course did not use. Although Florio does not clarify, I believe that $ 10.5 number does not include restricted tenders or exclusive rights tenders, which would make sense and match my numbers. I also assume Florio is accounting for the LTBE (likely to be earned) roster bonuses Read more [...]
