Roethlisberger Wants Meeting With Rooney After Pro Bowl

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — It’s no secret Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has a close relationship with former offensive coordinator Bruce Arians.

After hearing Arians’ claims that he was apparently forced out and that Art Rooney II wants changes to the offense, Roethlisberger says he wants a meeting with the Steelers’ team president.

This is all being played out in public right now because as events have transpired in Pittsburgh, Roethlisberger is in Hawaii this week for the Pro Bowl.

But the Steelers quarterback says when he gets back, he’s heading to Rooney’s office.

It was well known that Roethlisberger wanted Arians to remain his offensive coordinator.

“To have your leader, kind of, be gone is kind of a shocker for us,” said the quarterback. “But you just gotta be ready for it and be ready for whatever the Rooney’s and Coach Tomlin decide is our next step.”

Rooney also raised some eyebrows when he spoke of changes to the offense next season – an offense that had a 4,000-yard passer, two 1,000-yard receivers and a 900-yard rusher.

“When I get back I’m going to go to Mr. Rooney’s office and ask what he wants from me and what he wants from the offense because that’s a viable question for him,” said Roethlisberger. “He’s the owner and the boss, so I really would like to know what he wants and where he sees our offense going. Cause I’d like to tell him where I see us going and where he sees us. I think the biggest thing, from what I understood what he meant by that was, not get hit so much. And so, I guess I could try not to get hit so much. I think some of that’s on me, some of it’s on linemen, some of it’s on coaches. It’s on everybody. I’ll put that on me.”

Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette Talks Meeting with Art Rooney II

*** Discuss this article and more at our Pittsburgh Steelers forum ***

Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette was part of a select group of media which met with Steelers Owner Art Rooney II earlier today, and joined Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sportsradio 93.7 The FAN to talk about what was said.

Rooney said the Steelers have some serious work to get back under the cap, and Ed told us what that entails, and what players could be casualties of this.

Hines Ward was one of the names that Rooney said he has already spoken with about the issue.  Ed’s feeling is that the Steelers are probably trying to talk Hines into retiring, but Hines has given no indication that he’s even considering it.

Ed also discussed the notion that Art Rooney II threw out that Ben might need to “tweak” his game, and why the team feels that way.
