Antonio Brown: Todd Haley “seems like a nice guy”

*** Discuss this article and more at our Pittsburgh Steelers forum ***

Todd Haley has never been known to be a warm and fuzzy guy. He’s rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. He drove Charlie Weis out of Kansas City while he was the head coach of the Chiefs, he’s known for going up against anyone’s backside that doesn’t get it. However, one thing is for sure, he knows how to develop wide receivers. The list is ...

Antonio Brown: Todd Haley “seems like a real friendly guy”

When new Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley was hired, the questions in Pittsburgh were mostly about whether the famously prickly Haley could get along with the players on Pittsburgh’s offense. But Steelers receiver Antonio Brown says that’s not a concern at all. Brown told Jim Rome on Rome that after working with Haley in minica...

James Harrison doesn’t like the new Steelers throwbacks

The reaction to the new Steelers throwback jersey has been, for the most part, negative. Joining the chorus of boos is Steelers linebacker James Harrison. “There’s a reason these jerseys were from 1932,” Harrison said on his Twitter and Facebook accounts.  “[I]t’s 2012 now though, so send them back!!!“ Actually, the jerseys are from 1934. …

Pittsburgh Steelers Team President Art Rooney II Says He Would Like Mike Tomlin to Be Long-term Coach. Let’s Hope that is True

With all of the activity that has been going on within the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise this offseason, it seems as if there is no guarantee that veteran players or coaches will be granted a permanent place with this organization.
So far, veterans Arnez Battle, James Farrior, Chris Kemoeatu, Bryant McFadden, Aaron Smith, and Hines Ward have been released. Moreover, on the coaching side, offensive coordinator Bruce Arians’ “retirement” seemed to be a result of team president Art Rooney II just not wanting Arians as OC anymore.
Now it is being said that Rooney would love to have head coach Mike Tomlin for a long time.
According to www.nfl.com, Tomlin has a contract that “is guaranteed through 2012 with an option for 2013. Rooney’s comments about Tomlin’s contract, performance, and future were posted on www.nfl.com.
“Our coach’s contract is something we don’t really try to speculate on what might happen,” Rooney said. “We’re obviously very happy wit...

Mike Wallace looks like he’ll remain in Pittsburgh

According to Chris Wesseling of Rotoworld.com, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that it doesn’t look like any teams are interested in giving up a first round pick in order to try and sign Pittsburgh Steelers restricted free agent Mike Wallace.
Schefter stated some teams thought about going after Wallace, but in the end decided not too.  So right now it looks like Wallace won’t be going anywhere and he’ll be in Pittsburgh for the 2012 season.

It looks like Steelers cuts are all over

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is calling it the March Massacre. In the span of three days, the Steelers let go of defensive end Aaron Smith, wide receiver Hines Ward, guard Chris Kemoeatu, and linebacker James Farrior. That’s 44 years of experience with the Steelers, gone in very short order. The team started the process by releasing wideout…

Steelers will take care of 2012, 2013 like they always do

Every offseason we hear about teams who have $ 20 million, even $ 30 million or more in cap space before they do any type of moves to free up additional money. The Bengals this year have about $ 60 million in cap room.  Everybody always wonders why the Steelers aren’t in a similar position and why they have to do so many restructures each year to get cap compliant.  Why aren’t the Steelers big players in free agency, if they had more cap space they could be;  is an argument often heard around the water cooler.
Even if the Steelers would somehow manage to have $ 30 million in cap space to start out a business year, that doesn’t mean they would go out and drop an exorbitant amount of money on an outside player just because they’re available.  Pittsburgh builds their team through the draft, and they always will. They get by in free agency with middle tier players to fill in as depth but rely on the starters to be guys they groom out of college for the most part. It’s hard to argue wi...

49ers GM Trent Baalke Admits A Player Like Mike Wallace Would Interest Them

San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke joined Adam Schein and Rich Gannon on SiriusXM NFL Radio today at the 2012 NFL combine for an interview. Baalke was asked in an indirect way about Pittsburgh Steelers unrestricted free agent wide receiver Mike Wallace and his comments that he made on Wednesday about his willingness to play for another team.

Schein acknowledged in his questioning that he knew Baalke could not mention Wallace by name, but he asked him if that kind of wide receiver, who is a deep threat, would be the kind of wide receiver he would be looking for in the offseason. Read more [...]
