Steelers shut down Jets in second half

The Jets offensive breakthrough of last week lasted into the second quarter of Sunday’s game with the Steelers. They led 10-6 after two scoring drives in two tries and looked fairly sharp on their way up and down the field in both cases. Things came screeching to a halt at that point, however. Sanchez would…ProFootballTalk » Pittsburgh Steelers

Steelers Paced By Dominant Second Half, Rout Rams 27-0

Photo

A truly inspiring performance from both the offense and defense in the final 30 minutes of play led Pittsburgh to a 27-0 rout of the hapless Rams in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers got solid play from spot-starter QB Charlie Batch, who was 15-for-22 for 208 yards and one interception. WR Antonio Brown slipped coming out of his break right after Batch recovered from a slip himself. It was a clean throw in a game full of them for Batch.

Batch just missed out on a 47-yard touchdown pass to Mike Wallace, who's knee was ruled down at the 1-yard line.

The game looked eerily reminiscent of Steelers teams of the past; hard running, tough defense and relatively no threat from the opposition. While they did give up 103 yards on the ground to Steven Jackson, they held QB Kellen Clemens to an abysmal 9-for-24 for 91 yards.

RB Rashard Mendenhall ran powerfully and gracefully to 116 yards on 18 carries. He scored his ninth touchdown of the season.

Rookie John Clay, who was activated in place of Mewelde Moore, took his first professional carry 10 yards for his first professional touchdown in the second quarter to put the Steelers up 10-0.

Shaun Suisham had two field goals - including one from 49 yards - on the game. RB Isaac Redman rounded out the scoring with a 2-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

WR Hines Ward looked like he may take a run at immortality at the end of the game. He needed just nine more catches to break the 1,000 career reception plateau, but finished the game with four.

Antonio Brown broke the team's all-purpose yardage record with 2,048 on the season. He also topped 1,000 yards receiving on the season.

Pittsburgh Steelers (9-3) vs. Cleveland Browns (4-8): BTSC NFL Week 14 Gameday Thread (2nd half)

Is Ben ok?

Not sure there's another concern right now, except for that thin advantage in the scoring department. And perhaps C Maurkice Pouncey's injury.

Cleveland is doing a great job defensively, credit to them, but some locker room time will re-adjust the game plan, and hopefully produce some better results.

Great teams survive injuries, even to their MVP. We're going to find out really quickly what the Steelers defense can do after years of injuries to their quarterback finally took its toll.

Comment at will.

Steelers (8-3) vs. Bengals (7-4): BTSC NFL Week 13 Gameday Thread (2nd Half)

Now that's more like it. As I and my guests on the podcasts expected this week, the Steelers bounced back from their sloppy Week 13 win over Kansas City with a fine effort against Cincinnati. The Steelers have been sound in all three phases of the game -- the defense has limited the Bengals to 7 points, Rashard Mendenhall adds his third and fourth TDs of the season against the Bengals, and Antonio Brown returned a punt 60 yards for the final score of the half. Awesome stuff all the way around. Now, stay focused and finish business.

Pittsburgh Steelers (8-3) vs. Cincinnati Bengals (7-4): BTSC NFL Week 13 Gameday Open Thread (1st Half)

Considering how infrequently the Pittsburgh Steelers have blown out teams in recent years, it's perhaps foolish to think this: but I'm expecting a great performance and convincing win by the Steelers on Sunday afternoon. In a puzzling scheduling oddity, the Steelers are meeting the Bengals for the second time in three games, with Pittsburgh's bye week thrown in there to make it an even four Sundays since the two teams met last at Paul Brown Stadium in the Queen City.

Both squads are coming off hard-fought but less than noteworthy wins in Week 12: the Steelers refused to bury the Chiefs when they had the chance to and ending up escaping Arrowhead Stadium with just a 13-9 win; earlier in the day, the Bengals overcame a ten-point deficit to squeak out a three-point victory over the Browns. In that regard, both teams enter Week 13 eager to play much better than they did seven days ago.

Enjoy the game, keep the language and emotions (relatively) in check, and hopefully we'll be reveling in a much better outing this week, a comfortable lead in the wild card, and perhaps even a return to (our rightful) place atop the AFC North standings thanks to a Ravens clunker against the Browns.

For updates on the inactives for the Steelers and Bengals, as well as for the other 14 games being played on Sunday and Monday of Week 13, take advantage of the leg work being done by SB Nation's fantasy site, Fake Teams.

Go Steelers!
