Immediately after Hurricane Sandy hit the New York/New Jersey area, members of PFT Planet who live in that particular area of the globe raised concerns about proceeding with Sundays’ Steelers-Giants game at MetLife Stadium. The NFL has been steadfast in its position that the game will go forward on Sunday, as scheduled. But should it? …...

Sunday night wrap-up: Roethlisberger keeps it going

These are not the Steelers you’re used to. But it’s still the same Ben Roethlisberger, which means they’re always going to have a chance. With a system, he’s still coming to grips with, a supposed lack of running game and lack of protection, and too many balls on the ground, the Steelers quarterback was undeterred,…

Where are the Steelers going this season? Week 6 Preview

*** Discuss this article and more at our Pittsburgh Steelers forum ***

Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers have had a rough start to the season. They lost to Peyton Manning and, what turns out to be, a weak Broncos team. They also lost to the Raiders, come on, it's the Raiders. They beat, a terrible Jets team and squeezed out a win against the Eagles last week. The early bye doesn't do anything for an aging defens...

Going Fishing With Brett Keisel

*** Discuss this article and more at our Pittsburgh Steelers forum ***

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Brett Keisel took a group of lucky contest winners fishing today at a sporting club in Bridgeville.

If there’s anyone in southwestern Pennsylvania that looks more like a mountain man than Keisel, he’s hard to find.

“I grew up like, ‘…This is so much fun being out in the wild and see shooting stars and catching fish,’ you know that’s what I love doing and that’s what I’m trying to pass on to him,” Pittsburgh Steeler Brett Keisel said.

The Steelers’ defensive lineman grew up out west and today he shared his love of the great outdoors with a few lucky winners.

“Why not do something charitable where people can bid on coming out spending the morning with us fishing you know we’re out here fishing anyways so we might as well do something to benefit others,” he said.

The fishermen and ladies won the chance to fish with Keisel at charity auctions. The money will support the Challenge Program, Habitat for Humanity and Variety Pittsburgh.

“This is like the trifecta though we got, Steelers’ Brett Keisel, fishing instead of work and we’re helping out the children’s Variety. It doesn’t get any better than that,” said Tammy Frankhouser.

While some of the fishermen were quite experienced, others were just starting out like 4-year-old Joseph Massaro, who is hooked on fishing.

“I think it’s just the quietness of fishing and watching them just take everything in for the first time and you’re sitting back and observing and thinking back to how it felt when you were a kid, so it’s all good,” said Stephanie Massaro, Joseph’s mother.

Gilbert Going From Right to Left Tackle in 2012 Says Colbert

The Steelers offensive line is going to be very different in 2012, as today GM Kevin Gilbert told 93.7 The FAN that the team will be shifting right tackle Marcus Gilbert to left tackle.

“I think going into right now knowing that Max Starks is an unrestricted free agent — and Max did a great job for us coming back last year — but Max is also rehabbing an ACL and only time will tell how quickly he heals and whether we’re able to re-sign him and add him back in the mix. But having done it (injuring his knee) in the playoff game, it won’t be early in the process.

“So I think if we were to line up today, I would imagine that, and ultimately it’s the coach’s decision, but my guess is Marcus Gilbert would kick over to the left and Willie Colon, who we’re fortunate to get back next year, would move up to the right.”

Gilbert had some good, and some not so good moments in 2011. He was a second-round pick (63rd overall) out of Florida last season, and while he started 13 games, late in the year he was sat by Mike Tomlin for the start of the Rams game for not having a good week in practice. He did end up starting 13 of 14 games as a rookie in place of Colon, who was placed on injured reserve with a torn triceps.

Bouchette: Ward Not Going to Retire

There’s a lot more about the Hines Ward retirement talk today, and Ed Bouchette of the Post-Gazette says flat out it won’t happen.

Many have said he no longer can play, that he’s not getting “separation” anymore. The Steelers coaches seem to think that too, which is why I believe those coaches do not want him back. But if they force him out, I believe there will be some teams who would welcome him to their roster — not as a No. 1 or maybe even a No. 2, but as a proven, veteran possession receiver who can impart his knowledge on some younger receivers. Arizona, for example, would be among them, especially with Ward’s old position coach and offensive coordinator, Ken Whisenhunt.

Bouchette says that Ward has a roster bonus due in March, meaning that a decision will be made by then.
