Ben Roethlisberger’s Agent Discusses Art Rooney II Notion That Ben May Need To “Tweak” His Style Of Play

*** Discuss this article and more at our Pittsburgh Steelers forum ***

Ben Roethlisberger’s agent Ryan Tollner joined Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sportsradio 93.7 The FAN to discuss Ben’s offseason and the comments made by Steelers Owner Art Rooney II that Ben may need to “tweak” his game because he’s always looking to evolve his game, and would like to avoid the hits the team doesn’t want to see him take.

Tollner also pointed out that Ben is very confident in his ability, and can change his playing style against different defenses because he’s capable of doing so many different things.

Ben is planning on playing in the Pro Bowl this year despite his high ankle sprain, and Tollner updated us on Ben’s health and why they don’t think he’s risking anything playing in the game due to the lack of hitting.

Tollner also discussed with us the front row seat he has had in watching the off field progression of Ben Roethlisberger and how he has been able to turn his reputation around.

We also discussed whether or not Ben was upset not being voted MVP by his teammates, and Ryan said absolutely not because Ben doesn’t care about individual accolades, he just wants to win championships and couldn’t be more happy for Antonio Brown.

We wrapped things up with Tollner getting his insight on the relationship between Ben and Hines Ward, as well as whether or not Ben would be willing to restructure his contract given that the team is so far over the salary cap heading into the offseason.

Ryan Clark Discusses Not Playing In Denver, How He’ll Help Team Prepare

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Andrew Fillipponi and Clark opened things up discussing the number one question on everyone’s mind regarding Ryan, his status for this week’s game against the Broncos and how he’s dealing with the news that he won’t be allowed to play.

Clark wanted to play because it’s the playoffs, but Coach Tomlin made the decision saying he wouldn’t let his son play under these circumstances, so he won’t let him play despite team doctor’s clearing him.

Given that he’s not playing this week because of his sickle-cell trait, Ryan told us what his week will be like leading up to the game, and how he’ll be working on the scout team to help his teammates get ready.

Ryan also talked about the Broncos offense saying it’s an “unorthodox” NFL offense because you’ll get your Quarterback killed running it.

Ryan Clark Discusses Win Over Rams, Looks Ahead To Browns

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — The Ryan Clark show with Andrew Fillipponi is once again live from Nakama.

Ryan would love to meet some NBA players, but he doesn’t get the chance.

Once his career is over, Ryan thinks he would like to coach.

Ryan remembers back to the humble beginnings of his career.  It’s rare in this game to develop really close friendships, but Ryan’s relationship with Troy Polamalu started with church and bible study.  Much of Troy’s workouts focus on honing reaction times. Troy is a rock star in Samoa.

There is a lot of movement and a lack of stability in the coaching profession.

Ryan is saddened by the sudden cold feet of a woman in need of advice who has decided not to discuss her love life on the air.

Ryan has enough faith in his own fashion sense to say if an outfit looks good.  Ryan hates reality shows, but his wife loves them.

Ryan will go easy on New Years Eve since the Steelers have to play the next day.

Tomlin Discusses Decision To Start Roethlisberger Against 49ers

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Steelers saw their opportunity to control their own destiny slip through their hands after a loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday.

There has been much debate both locally and nationally about the Steelers’ decision to let Ben Roethlisberger play despite being hampered by a high ankle sprain.

Roethlisberger completed 25 of 44 passes for 330 yards in the game. However, he threw three interceptions and also lost a fumble, which led to three scoring drives by the 49ers.

Head coach did not make any excuses and gave all the credit to the 49ers saying they played, “winning football.”

Tomlin admitted the team just didn’t do enough to win.

After the game Tomlin and the players defended decision to let Roethlisberger play.

“He was deemed healthy enough to play. We always like what Ben provides us, not only from his quality of play but his leadership. This guy’s a tremendous competitor. We appreciate his efforts. Obviously, we fell short tonight,” Tomlin said.

“We expect that from Ben. He’s the type of guy that goes out and gives us everything every game. Broken nose, broken thumb, high ankle sprain, doesn’t matter. If he can play, he’s the type of guy that’s going to do it. We knew if he had an opportunity to go out there and play, he would play and he would play hard, and he did. Obviously, he wasn’t the same Ben we know, but that Ben is better than most of the quarterbacks in the NFL,” Ryan Clark said.

During his press conference Tuesday, Tomlin said there were never any plans to not start Roethlisberger. He said he is a competitor and he did not want to deny the team an opportunity to win the game.

He did not consider pulling Roethlisberger throughout the game, though he did say he wished that they would have played better.

Tomlin said he will assess the injuries during their short week as they prepare to face the St. Louis Rams on Saturday.

Steelers WR Jerricho Cotchery Discusses Moving Up Depth Chart

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Steelers Wide Receiver Jerricho Cotchery joined Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sportsradio 93.7 The FAN to talk about his expanding role on the team.

It has appeared as though Cotchery is replacing Hines Ward in a number of formations, and he told us what that feels like, and how Ward has been there helping him along the entire time.

When asked where he seems himself on the depth chart, Cotchery said he just views himself as another guy trying to help the team win, and Mike Tomlin creates an environment where everyone feels important does what they’re asked to.

We also talked about the offense running the no huddle, and how Jerricho enjoys running that form of the offense, and why the Steelers having an elite Quarterback makes it easier to run.

We wrapped things up with Cotchery discussing whether or not the Steelers view themselves as the team to beat in the AFC.
