*** Discuss this article and more at our Pittsburgh Steelers forum ***

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Steelers Wide Receiver Jerricho Cotchery sat down with Joe Starkey of Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sportsradio 93-7 The FAN at the start of OTA’s to talk about his desire to return with the Steelers and taking on the role of veteran leader for the teams young receiving core.

When it comes to the new offense that Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley is trying to install, Jerricho said Ben Roethlisberger was accurate in saying that it’s about 90 percent different from what they were used to under Bruce Arians.  Jerricho also gave us some insight in what we may see different in this new playbook.

Despite Ben speaking publicly about the playbook, Jerricho told us that Ben is a pro and he’ll be ready to lead the team when it’s time to take the field.

We also got Jerricho to weigh in on the passing of Junior Seau and the Saints bounty situation.

Cotchery stays with the Steelers

Veteran receiver Jerricho Cotchery, who slid into Hines Ward’s role in Pittsburgh last year, could be filling those duties again.  Especially since Ward is gone, and now Cotchery is back. *** Discuss this article and more at our Pittsburgh Steelers forum ***

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — The Pittsburgh Steelers re-signed wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery Wednesday, helping to solidify their wide receiving corps.

Cotchery reportedly signed for two years. The financial terms haven’t been released.

Cotchery joins Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders on the depth chart, along with restricted free agent Mike Wallace. Cotchery pulled in 15 catches for 227 yards and two touchdowns in the second half of last season.

His biggest impact came in the Wildcard playoff round at Denver, when he caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger that sent the game into overtime.

Cotchery and Roethlisberger developed chemistry as the year progressed, as Cotchery slowly moved up the depth chart.

Steelers re-sign WR Jerricho Cotchery

The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to terms with free agent wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery.

Cotchery posted the message ''Let me see ya towels'' on his Twitter account Wednesday after agreeing to a two-year deal worth around $ 3 million. The 29-year-old Cotchery had 16 receptions for 237 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games with Pittsburgh last season. He had a 31-yard touchdown reception during an overtime playoff loss to the Denver Broncos.

Cotchery gives the Steelers much-needed depth at wide receiver following the retirement of Hines Ward and the release of veteran Arnaz Battle. The Steelers have signed restricted free agent wide receiver Mike Wallace to a first-round tender.

If Wallace returns, Cotchery will likely compete for the third-receiver spot with Emmanuel Sanders behind Pro Bowlers Wallace and Antonio Brown.

Report: Jerricho Cotchery Two Year Deal Worth $3 Million

Immediately after it was announced that the Pittsburgh Steelers had signed unrestricted free agent wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery to a two year deal I speculated on Twitter that I would be surprsiede if the contract totaled out over $ 3 million. Ed Bouchette tweets tonight that the deal does indeed total out at $ 3 million.

Will be surprised if Cotchery two-year deal totals out over $ 3 million. Signing bonus will be key number. 1 million maybe at tops. #steelers— Steelers Depot (@Steelersdepot) April 11, 2012

Report: Steelers Sign Jerricho Cotchery to a two year deal

The Steelers have kept one of their own in bringing back Jerricho Cotchery.  Rotoworld is reporting that the Steelers have re-signed Cotchery to a two year deal.  This is good news for the Steelers.
The Steelers still have to worry but very little about Mike Wallace’s situation.  If Wallace were to leave the Steelers would still have 3 good receivers left on the squad.  Also with Emmanuel Sanders’ injury history it is good to have Cotchery for depth.  His veteran pressence in the locker room will help keep these young receivers grounded.
Cotchery had other offers.  He visited with the Rams and the Chiefs.  The Jets also showed interest in bringing him back to the team.  For him to come back as the fourth receiver when he could have gotten more playing time in these other places shows what kind of place Pittsburgh is.  These guys know what they mean when they play here.  That really sticks out.
