Steelers Bring in Free Agents Antoine Caldwell and Tavares Gooden

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been rather busy this offseason, but not in the sense of big headlines busy. As always the Steelers kept quiet in free agency and have not went after any of the big names besides the late offer on Rams’ offensive tackle Jake Long and the interest they had in Ravens’ outside linebacker [...]...

Caldwell No Longer A Candidate For Steelers Offensive Coordinator Job

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — ESPN is reporting former Colts head coach Jim Caldwell will take the quarterbacks coach job in Baltimore, meaning he’s no longer a candidate to fill the offensive coordinator vacancy in Pittsburgh.

Caldwell was rumored to be a candidate for the Steelers offensive coordinator job and reportedly interviewed with coach Mike Tomlin on Saturday about the position. This means he’s not out of the running.

Bruce Arians was not offered a contract to return next season as the Steelers offensive coordinator. He has recently been hired as the offensive coordinator with the Indianapolis Colts.

After Leaving Pittsburgh Without a Deal, Caldwell Ready to Join Ravens Staff

It was thought that former Colts head coach Jim Caldwell may be coming to the Steelers as possible offensive coordinator.

Now, he’s going to the enemy.

The man who led the Colts to the Super Bowl just two seasons ago is now set to join the offensive coaching staff of the Ravens, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Ravens announced last week that Cam Cameron would return as offensive coordinator, but they still need a quarterbacks coach for Joe Flacco. Caldwell now appears to be the choice.

Caldwell had been in Pittsburgh Saturday, and had breakfast with coach Mike Tomlin, but left the Steel City without a contract, and it was probably at that point he realized he would not be getting one.

So the search for the man to take over for Bruce Arians will continue. And the Steelers will see plenty of Caldwell on the other sideline in 2012 and beyond.

King: Don’t Be Shocked to See Jim Caldwell as the Next Steelers OC

With Bruce Arians gone, there’s a little tidbit in today’s Monday Morning NFL QB from Peter King that points to who he thinks will be the next Steelers offensive coordinator – former Colts coach Jim Caldwell.

Mike Tomlin (secondary) and Jim Caldwell (quarterbacks) coached together at Tampa Bay under Tony Dungy in Dungy’s last season with the Bucs, 2001, if you’re looking for a clue on the next offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh.

Caldwell was dismissed as the Colts head coach last week after the team went 2-14. He led Indy to the Super Bowl in his first season in 2009, the Colts were AFC South champs and lost in the first playoff game in 2010, and were awful this past season without Peyton Manning.

Caldwell joined Tony Dungy’s staff with the Buccaneers in 2001 as quarterbacks coach. He followed Dungy to Indianapolis in 2002 and remained with him for his entire tenure, helping lead the Colts to a win in Super Bowl XLI.
