Troy Polamalu Top Rated Steelers Player Again In Top 100 Players Of 2012

The Top 100 Players of 2012 rolled on last night as players 11-20 were revealed. I am not a big fan of these list as I question their legitimacy for the most part. Several players have claimed not to have voted since the network started the top 100 last off-season and that is why I smell a rat. I like the concept that the NFL Network has, it's just I think they made up the list on their own for the most part. Sure a few players might have voted, but likely not as many as one might be led to believe. One aspect of the show that I do like is the comments made by other players about the ranked player Read more [...]

Discussion of regular season game in Ireland crops up again

Back in January 2011, there was some speculation that the Steelers would be playing a regular season game in Dublin later that year. That never came to pass, but the idea of bringing a game to the Emerald Isle never went away. The BBC reports that the NFL came to Croke Park in Dublin this…

Warren Sapp ripping the Steelers again. (ho-hum)

In what is now becoming an annual rite of passage for him, former all-pro defensive tackle and current NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp is again taking shots at the Pittsburgh Steelers. I should probably stress the term ‘current’ is very loosely held these days with Sapp’s time at the NFL Network reportedly coming to an end but I think most of you know that already.
Last season, Sapp went out on a ‘treacherous limb’ and called the Steelers “old” following their 35-7 opening day loss to Baltimore. Wow, what a ground-breaking statement considering the Steelers were in fact the oldest defense in the NFL going into last season.
He went on to say the Steelers as we knew them were done and they wouldn’t make the playoffs which angered the Steeler Nation and rightfully so. No one wants to hear their team bashed but especially when they are already licking their wounds from a humiliating loss.
Of course the Steelers would only lose only three m...

The Steelers Are Too Old… Again?

*** Discuss this article and more at our Pittsburgh Steelers forum ***

I think everyone can remember the madness last year when Warren Sapp implied that the Pittsburgh Steelers were too old to be considered an elite team. The Steelers did a great job of proving Sapp wrong both with the teams' overall on field performance and the way that the younger backups stepped up thru injuries. So just as the offseason passes us steadily by and we almost have that negative implication out of our minds, it pops back up. I was reading a power ranking on NFL.com and was maligned to find that they had the Steelers listed as the 13th ranked team. Not bad for a 12-4 team that has lost Read more [...]

Trai Essex Will Be Back in Pittsburgh Again

Photo

Steelers OL Trai Essex doesn't have one position.

He has five.

And the versatility he's shown in the seven years with the team has earned him an eighth.

Essex signed a one-year deal with the offensive line-thin Steelers today, after playing in all 16 games in 2011. He was picked up as a free agent during training camp, and worked his way to three starts.

While one year contracts for veterans like Essex do not assure them a spot on the roster, the fact he was signed now instead of during training camp has to suggest he's in their plans one way or another.

Perhaps it's for continuity. I'm not sure if any other Steelers linemen has ever started at least one game at all five offensive line positions, but Essex can't be far from that. He played at all five in 2011.

Essex won't be confused for the modern day Anthony Munoz, but the veteran has plenty of experience, and will be counted on to help transition what could be a younger offensive line in 2012.
