Steelers about to remove veteran presence
The Steelers are still close to being up against the cap. The team is still in need of some much needed space to make sure they retain Mike Wallace and can bring in some youth to help this team in the future. They could also use a free agent to help fill the offensive line. That means they need to still do some restructured contracts or cut some guys.
The Steelers have done a good job of only removing bad players so far. They have done more restructuring then cuts. The team has saved all but $ 3.5 million of its $ 29 plus million in cap savings by restructuring contracts. It has helped keep this group of close guys together. They still could restructure James Harrison and Troy Polamalu to save money. The Steelers need to do some trimming though to get some young guys on the squad and prepare for the future.
Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette expects the Steelers to release at least 3 more guys. He expects between Larry Foote, Aaron Smith, James Farrior and Hines Ward ...
