    Agreed.

And it doesn't give a great vote of confidence in Worilds.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

Not so sure I agree. Who would we start if Worilds or Woodley go down? I say this signing is to push Worilds and for depth.

I agree with you Shawn except I think Butler would be for depth and an early round OLB would be to push Worilds.

Another senario if we sign Butler:

It's been said that Worlids is better suited to play on Woodley's side, let Butler and Worlids compete for replacing JH. Butler could possibly win out in that competition and then you have a solid backup to Woodley especially him and his injuries.
In either case is gives us better depth than we have now and wouldn't have to pull the trigger early on OLB when you need immediate help on the offense.

Butler won't sign here for depth or depth money. He will be signed and battle Worilds for ROLB. We will get the best out of Worilds and see if he is worth a new contract. What this does is keep the heat on Woodley. Best case scenario, we end up with 3 starting caliber OLBs & one plays 2013 on the cheap. If Woodley doesn't meet expectations in 2013.....

My point is in either senario we wind up with depth at the position, the loser of the competition becomes the backup. They aren't too thrilled with Carter either
Anyway, I think just about everyone here would agree signing Butler is a benefit to our LB corps

New Orleans Saints would be high target for LB Victor Butler if he leaves Steelers visit, source says

    By Larry Holder, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune
    March 14, 2013

The New Orleans Saints would be high on the target list for Cowboys free-agent linebacker Victor Butler if he leaves his Thursday visit with Pittsburgh without a contract, according to a source. The problem for the Saints is Butler may not leave Pittsburgh as the Steelers are pushing hard to land the 25-year-old linebacker.

New Orleans just agreed to terms with former Steelers cornerback Keenan Lewis on Thursday, but the hefty contract is salary-cap friendly this season as Lewis' cap number will only be $2.2 million. This means the Saints left themselves some wiggle room to acquire another piece for their defense.

The Saints are certainly looking for outside linebackers for their new 3-4 defensive scheme and Butler would fit the bill. Butler played under Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan the last two seasons in Dallas and would have a firm grasp of the system in New Orleans.

New Orleans was willing to spend money on linebacker Paul Kruger as the Saints finished runner-up to Cleveland to sign one of the top free-agent pass rushers.

Steelers shouldn't let Victor Butler leave without a contract

    by Gerry Dulac

Former Dallas Cowboys outside linebacker Victor Butler is visiting the Steelers today and they would be wise not to let him leave without his signature on a contract..

Not only is Butler being pursued by the Jets and the Saints, who have hired his former defensive coordinator in Dallas, Rob Ryan.

But he is a talented, up-and-coming outside edge rusher who just happened to be playing behind two Pro Bowlers with the Cowboys – DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer.

Butler is 6-foot-2, 245 pounds and was a pass-rush specialist with the Cowboys. If nothing else, he would give the Steelers more depth on the outside; more important, he would certainly push Jason Worilds to be the replacement for James Harrison on the right side.
