He's had a Hall of Famer as his starter, and still used 1 second, 2 thirds, 1 fourth, 1 sixth, and 2 sevenths (and the one with the most productive career was one of the 7th round picks, Matt Cassel).
Meanwhile, after drafting Ben Roethlisberger in the first round in 2004, our "brain fart trust" has used a 5th round pick on Omar Jacobs in 2006, a 5th round pick on Dennis Dixon in 2008, and a 4th round pick on Landry Jones in 2013.
That's it. Two fifths and a fourth. Not great players by any means, but really our 3 post-Ben QB selections are no essentially no worse than what the Patriots got out of their 7 post-Brady QB selections, and all of the guys we took were on day 3 of the draft.
How much draft capital did we spend on the QB's during the Ben era compared to how much New England spent on QB's during the Brady era? I bet Tom might have won more Super Bowls if they used that 2nd, two 3rds, 4th, 6th, and two 7ths on weapons for him to throw to, or defensive studs, instead of backups to him.
Can we all calm down about using a 4th round pick on Landry freaking Jones already? The 4th round occassionally gets you an Ike Taylor or a Larry Foote, but more often than that, it gets you guys like Thaddeus Gibson, Tony Hills, Ryan McBean, Orien Harris, Fred Gibson, Matthias Nkwenti, and Danny Farmer.
