Well he brought in all those incredible qb's to help him win.

That is what I inferred in my last post. Only no way he gets 5 years. Don't forget they already had the luxury of phasing in new players the past several years while the team was still strong. Missed opportunity. That is what concerns many fans and creates doubt for the future.

    OL Jackson-----Gilbert or Adams
    DB Lake--------Polamalu
    DB Woodson---Taylor
    LB Lloyd--------Woodley or Timmons
    WR Mills---------Wheaton
    WR Thigpen?----E. Sanders
RB Foster-------Bell [Foster had 96 carries in 90-91.] How do you think the team would fare if the above was the nucleus of the team going forward?
I'm not certain that's the best comparison...

All of the players on Cowher's side, with the exception of Thigpen, were inherited players from Noll...now, not to say that those players had a lot of playing time (Mills was a rookie in '91, Foster didn't play a lot, O'Donnell was a rookie in '90 along with Foster)...

All of the players on Tomlin's side, with the exception of Polamalu and Taylor, were drafted during his tenure...

Cowher did the same thing, according to Vader, and missed the playoffs three years in a row...

How about Tomlin coaches one team with a losing season before we put him anywhere close to the hot seat, okay?

True. But the comparisons were made from players available day 1 2013 as if that were Tomlin's 1st year. In other words, "here Mike let's see what you can do." And yes of course he gets some time to show something one way or the other.

Yup.....let's continue to wait things out until we are the Jaguars. That will be perfect timing and allow us to ruin any chances of a SB between now and when Roethlisberger retires. But then again.... we won't sniff a SB with the way Ben has been playing regardless of our OC, DC or defense.

If Tomlin was hired by the Rooneys, and Tomlin, up to this year, has coached teams to the SB (and won a ring!), and he's the guy you've signed to multiple contract extensions, why wouldn't you give him time?

Part of the problem with the Jags is that they've had three head coaches in three years...

    6 wins

    18 losses

In a 24 game span. And he had another 10 loss season after that.

If that didn't end Cowher's era, why should Tomlin who's yet to have a losing season, get tossed after one?

Maybe because the Rooneys saw improvement on the horizon. Who knows.

How does this roster look when the rest of the Cowher-era defense retires/leaves which is overdue in some areas? Not good at all....no depth at all.

Similar to Cowher's team circa 1998-1999 I suppose...

Yes... He did coach a Cowher-built team loaded with talent and leadership to a SB. You are correct.

    Here's a better question....

If Tomlin's job is so safe then why wasn't he allowed to hire his own OC after being a head coach of 7 years?

You think that would happen to Jim Harbaugh or Bill Belichek? What about Cowher? The Rooneys trusted Cowher.... they trusted his ability to build a team. They favored his opinion over the GMs (Tom Donahoe) at the time which resulted in the hiring of his replacement.. Colbert. Clearly, the FO doesn't have the same faith in Tomlin if he isn't allowed anymore to hire his own OC.

It doesn't get more obvious than that.
