Think about it.

The credible source?...it is the fact that it was Ian Rappaport who reported. Not that he is a credible guy and all he says is true, but who does he works for? The NFL.

And how funny that it was Jason La Canfora (CBS Sports), who was the one who came out and said this all wasn't true. He debunked a guy who replaced him at the NFL Network. I'd bet anything that it was Ben's camp who did that.
You're cracking me up, man. I'll be amused if anything more comes of this, but it's not worth the trouble at this point.

Wonder what Rapoport's source has to say about the $11 million cap hit the Steelers would have to take if they traded Ben?

Rapaport is on 93.7 right now. It's all speculation based on a team contacting the Steelers last year regarding a trade for Ben. He keeps saying that he wouldn't be surprised if this happens, that happens, whatever. What a crock, they're beating Ian up pretty good right now.

So that's it? Rapoport came up with this whole story from his speculation? After hearing a report from an "inside source" that some team inquired about trading for Ben last year?

Now there's some real journalism for you...

Seems to be, since Ben isn't happy with Haley and the Steelers got a call last year about a trade...Ben wants to be traded.

It's a biz for the Steelers and Ben. It's in both of their money making interest to stick together. Ben stands to make more money after his football career if he sticks it out in Pittsburgh and possibly wins more SuperBowls before he's thru. Win or lose, he's still in a better long term position financially because people prefer guys that stay with one team for a career. It's the nostalgia for the days gone by. He may be able to go somewhere and win a championship a la Lebron James, but no one's ever gonna love a Lebron the way people once did. Ben doesn't want to go down that path.

The Steelers also stand to make a lot more money keeping Ben in the fold. As long as Ben is here, they can claim to be working toward winning more SuperBowls even if they're not even competitive. Ben will keep the fan base engaged. He'll sell a lot of gear and keep fans engaged. At the end of the day, Ben's still the most exiting player in the game to watch. Everyone will keep watching to see what magic is coming next. He's still got a long run in Pittsburgh.

This is some sad sh#t right here... people will do anything for a click or a little bit of shine. I wouldn't be surprised if he read a post or 2 on PS to get his story.

Bob Labriola and Tunch Ilkin were talking about this on Steelers Live today. After breaking it down, they basically called Rappaport a liar and said to look west (meaning AZ) for the source of the rumor.

Wow...some of you guys are hard to understand. I wonder if some fans just can't pay attention to anything football related unless it involves tail gating and drunk drinking?

Do you not realize the $11 million cap hit is an easy fix in a trade? It can be a win-win for all parties. They re-structure and give Ben a new long term contract. Back end loaded gives Ben more money for more years. It gives both teams involved in the trade immediate cap relief.

Here is an example.

In order to make the trade happen, McNabb had to agree to re-work the five-year, $78 million contract he signed with the Redskins because the Vikings didn't have enough salary-cap room for him with the way the deal is structured. NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi confirmed that a restructured deal was in place, but the terms weren't immediately available.
