I predicted this. Once Farrior was gone the D would slip big time. He is the biggest loss this D has had since the loss of Rod Woodson/Greg Lloyd.

    Captain Hyperbole, to the rescue!

The Steelers D is not good, but there are worse defenses for certain. Overall, we are very average right now. Ike is playing terribly. But, plenty of teams are giving up a lot of points and/or yards these days.

Steeler fans are the most spoiled fans around. Changes are needed. It is a transitional year. But, all this we are the worst crap is just ridiculous. If watching this team makes you miserable, find another pastime.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

Good points all. The issue is when you are use to being among the best a drop to the middle of the pack just seems that much more extreme.

You are right in this should be a transitional year, but will it be or will just try to reprise the same thing next year? There are lots of holes that need to be plugged on the defense: ILB, OLB, CB, Safety. That is an awful lot to expect from a single draft and given our terrible cap situation free agency is a pipe dream. We need to get contributions from players sooner so we can make value judgements based on real observations in game conditions as to whether they are the answers. We have waited too long at some positions and now we have a real problem.
"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"

Or he can root for his favorite team and "acknowledge" his disappointment with the direction this team appears to be headed. Yeah, we're spoiled, but should we all get together and cheer and toast champagne as we watch this team play "below the line football"? I think not. This team has some serious issues, some of which are fixable in-season, others no so much, but to ignore that they exist is just stupid.

Some of the problems are player related, and some appear to be coaching issues, and of course there's the injury factor. Tomlin and co. have been pretty successful since he took over, he deserves credit for that. But, he does not get to wear a teflon jacket. We've also seen some disturbing trends crop up over that time as well, and some of those appear to be a least part and partial to the way the Steelers have played so far this year.

Tomlin has got figure some things out and fast. One of which is, has Dick LeBeau been passed by the rest of the league? A lot of the rule changes and scheme changes around the league the last few years have directly affected the way Steelers traditionally plays football. I really wonder if he is/they are doing enough to adjust to those changes.

What they did 3 years ago, has no bearing on what they're doing this season, although this 4th quarter collapse problem is certainly not a new phenomenon. This defense for all it's gaudy rankings, can no longer get to the passer, they dont get INTs, they're suspect against the run, they showboat after minor plays and talk reckless in the media. Lots of "non-Steelers" things going on in Steelerland.

Everybody is not gonna sit aournd and pretend all is well, when it's clearly not. And they're not going to be ok because they're the Steelers. If they're gonna be ok, it's gonna be because they got some things figured out inthe coming weeks. Hopefully they can get it worked out in time to salvage the season.

    Brandon Johnson?? Holy Toledo!

I completely forgot about him. And I was really expecting a big contribution from this player. Has he been playing? I am serious I have not noticed him this regular season at all. [I checked the Gamebook and yes he was active and played. But, very little. He made a tackle or two on ST's and one assist in the regular lineup. He was not active for the Eagle game.

But then again the same thing could be said about some players whose names are in the box xcore. Zaggy Hood[he has done no Zigging this year] for example. Is he still here? Has he been playing? I know for some unexplainable reason McClendon has been watching. No one can figure that one out.

Is there a penalty for having only 10 men on the field. I know 12 is not allowed but I was not sure about 10. It does seem like TS are at least one short DB at times.

There is an article in todays Tribune about the various pass defenses. Cover 2, Cover 1, Cover 3, Cover 0. But it was a bit technical and not easily understood by some of us casual fans I suppose. [Me for one] Cover 3 seemed interesting since we have no pass rush anyhow.

It did not suggest TS were considering any changes however. Even though many fans suspect TS are using a Cover No One Pass D now.

I'm only mentioning this because despite this shaky start this season is far from over. A little tightening here and there and maybe some changes in the DB in either personnel or concept and TS will get back on track. Believe it!

Everyone knew it would be very difficult to replace a HOF player like Farrior. But, I did think TS would get by with a concentrated effort from Foote and backed up by Johnson and Sylvester. Actually, that has not been the problem at all. It has been the total disappearance of the DL that is the most puzzling.

Someone should start a thread called UDACOACH, or Let's Play Coach. If you believe this season is not already over how do you play it from now on in? What changes in personnel? What changes in style?
