Confidence is a HUGE factor at the QB position. Duck has a lot of it. I think Rudolph has played scared since he was knocked out cold against the Rats.
Confidence comes from ability. And at least for now, Duck has a lot more of it than Rudolph.
It's funny. Before the season, when you look at both guys physically or listen to either of them speak, you'd think that Rudolph would be the one with more confidence and more ability. But Duck is walking the walk.
Duck is playing with house money. Nothing to lose.
Mason has the pressure of being the successor to Ben and everyone made it sound like he was the next guy when we moved up to get him.
Maybe he bounces back or maybe we deal him and he shows more once he relaxes... or maybe this is just who he is and it’s another Big 12 QB who couldn’t handle the speed of the NFL.
Bottomline, the NFL hasn't figured out how to find franchise QBs no matter how they try. But analytics are only now emerging so maybe in the near future a formula is found.
I am skeptical... too many intangibles for that position.
Numbers can't work because there is such a variety of playing experiences that can't be detected by analytics. For example, how do you compare what Rudolph did in the Big 12 to what Duck did at Samford? Who played with and against better linemen? Better receivers and corners? Had a stronger D so that he was either often playing from ahead or behind? Played in games down to the wire or were over by halftime?
Football is all about the eye test. Watch a guy. Numbers suck people in, but the eye test can set them straight.
