James Harrison to Play vs Jets

Pittsburgh Steelers five-time Pro Bowl linebacker James Harrison will play in the team's home opener against the New York Jets on Sunday, according to a report.

Harrison, who sat out the entire preseason and the team's Week 1 loss to the Denver Broncos with a left knee injury, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Thursday that he will return for this weekend's game.

Coach Mike Tomlin had indicated earlier this week that Harrison, who underwent a minor procecdure on the knee last month, had a chance to play against the Jets.

The 34-year-old Harrison has grown frustrated by lingering knee issues and has grown so tiresome of the subject he's promised only to address it one day a week during the season.

Harrison called himself a "game-time decision" before the Broncos, but could only watch from the sideline in a yellow T-shirt and black shorts as the Steelers lost in Denver for the second time in nine months.

The Steelers could certainly use him on Sunday against the Jets (1-0). New York exploded for 48 points while whipping Buffalo in its opener even with new acquisition Tim Tebow playing in a limited role. Tebow lit up Pittsburgh while beating the Steelers in the playoffs last winter as quarterback for the Broncos. He's firmly behind starter Mark Sanchez in New York, though Tomlin warned the Jets just showed "the tip of the iceberg" when it comes to their plans for the versatile Tebow this season.

Pittsburgh hasn't started a season 0-2 since 2002, though that didn't stop the Steelers from finishing 10-5-1 and making it to the divisional round of the playoffs. The Steelers haven't even lost consecutive games since a five-game slide in 2009. They pride themselves on their resilience, but will need it against New York.

This is great news! I don't expect him to be back full strength or anywhere close, but it's the first step in that direction.

We got our "6-PACK" - time to work on a CASE!

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!

Deebo at 75% is still better than the alternatives...
Steel Maniac's Time-Based Prediction: Lamar Jackson will be a bust and total flop in the NFL.

What Actually Happened: Lamar Jackson became the youngest two-time NFL MVP winner ever.

Worilds did better on Sunday than Woodley. he at least got a lick on Manning.

For all the hate Worilds gets, he does do well when given chances, e.g. #2 last year in QB pressures.

Worilds was completely untouched on that play. Timmons and Worilds rushed together from the same side, and Knowshon Moreno was only able pick up one of them. Timmons was first, so Moreno attempted to block Timmons, and Worilds just came in right behind without a single Bronco laying a hand on him.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Meh. Worilds' sack was on a stunt/blitz where he came in totally unblocked.

Further, I don't know who the source is with information on Harrison, but considering that James didn't even practice on Wednesday, I'm not sure how anything could be determined about how his knee is responding yet. Wishful thinking, I suppose.
Even if Bill Belichick was getting an atomic wedgie, his face would look exactly the same.

No Harrison or Polamalu Sunday vs Jets?

Steelers linebacker James Harrison told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Thursday that*he will return
*for this weekend's game after missing all of the preseason and Week 1 with a left knee injury.*

But Harrison's words aren't backing up his actions just yet. Harrison didn't practice again Thursday, putting his status in doubt for Sunday's game against the*New York Jets
    .*

The Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac also said*"don't be surprised"
    *if safety*Troy Polamalu
*also doesn't play after sitting out Thursday's practice. He is dealing with a calf injury.*

Recent history says the Steelers would be hurt more by the loss of Polamalu. When he missed time in 2009 and 2010, the Steelers went 6-7. Last season, when Harrison was out five games (four for injury and one due to suspension), the Steelers went 4-1.

Must we always damn a good play by saying, "he was untouched, etc." Why did no one else find a way to come in untouched if it was as easy as that? Certainly there was some other occasion during the game when someone else could have done something similar. I think Worilds did show something on that play because he read the opening, timed it well and burst to the QB who had zero time to react and evade the rush or get rid of the ball. Everybody in the Worild couldn't do it as well.

    Exactly.

Still, I was happy to see him make a play... something Chris Carter didn't even do once last week. Carter had a chance to make a statement last week (as a starter). The biggest statement he made is that he's not there (yet).

Don't be positive about Worilds. Remember he isn't from Penn State so he will always be lacking.
