    Roughing the Passer

Proposal put forward to make it a reviewable penalty. Hate it. The game is already bogged down with too many reviews.

Only 3 were questionable?! I think the Steelers must have had all three.
"Sling" ... don't "slam".... when is the last time we saw a QB get slammed? Maybe five years ago?

I'm of the opinion that anything decided by an official should be challengeable. Not more challenges. But the ability to challenge more (all) things. Then it's up to the coach to decide if that particular infraction is worth using up one of his challenges on.

This issue will never be fixed because the NFL refuses to admit there is a problem. Only 3 questionable calls all season. What a complete joke. There's a terrible roughing call in almost every game that's played. It's such a shame. I'd be ok with making it reviewable if that actually led to correcting calls, but I doubt it will. They'll review and back up the terrible call made on the field.

Until there is an independent crew this is just going to cause more frustration.

The NFL doesn’t think they have a ref problem because the money is rolling in. They even killed a great SB ending with ticky tack call, on a ice skating rink.. to prove they don’t give a damn about giving us the best product possible.

Its not the calls its the rules, people complain about the refs but if you listen to the broadcast and they bring in Dean Blandino or Mike Perrera they tell you what is going to be called during a review before its even announced and they are right 99% of the time. This tells me the refs are looking at that same thing and using the same criteria.

but I believe these guys are still working for the league. My frustration is even when we see the replay most times the independent guy is going to leverage his opinion. “Based on the call on the field its going to be hard for them to overturn this call even though we see blah blah blah”

Good point. And if too many calls are overturned it then points a finger to the refs not being able to make the right calls or not understanding the rule.

Yeah, the problem is the league wants these all to be penalties. Agree with NC, don't bog down the game more just to hear "the play stands as called" after a wasted ten minutes.

                  Penalties shouldn't be reviewable.

They already tried with PI and it was a massive fail.

This will be the same IMO. If they let them review it, it will never be overturned IMO.

And that's for overturning penalties. I think allowing reviews to call penalties would destroy the game. Because if you can do it for roughing, why not holding? And there's probably holding on every play.

Sometimes refs F-up. And it probably evens itself out across the season.

                    I agree with this.

And I think the main problem with the rules (like what's a catch) is that they have to write them in an age of instant replay.

Without replays and the ability to go frame by frame through a play, it's much easier to know what a catch or a fumble is.

They can't do this because there's too much money on the line, but I don't think you should be able to get saved by replay. It should be more like pickup football. If you fumbled a frame (1/60s or whatever it is) after after your knee touched, you still f'd up.

                      What about reviewing missed calls.

I think I’m more irritated when a guy gets crushed and there’s no flag.

I can live with being overly cautious to protect the QB.

                        From the looks of it.
Analysts on nfl radio believe the competition committee will make the a 3rd qb active on game day next year

should've happened a long time ago, IMO

                            agreed.

I guess it took a conference championship game with the whole nation watching a qb taking snaps but not being able to throw the ball for them to figure it out

That was the craziest/saddest thing I've ever seen, in terms of who's available to run the offense. Just unbelievable how they went through QB's last season.
