How did people feel about this WR room at the time?

JuJu, rookie DJ, FA Moncrief, James Washington, Ryan Switzer

The Steelers threw 510 passes that year. The 14-2 Ravens threw 440 and eventually lost to Art Smith's Titans, who threw 448.

Two heavy run, ball control offenses who played to their strengths, like the Steelers hopefully will in 2024.

If the offense can score early in most games, I think it can work. Especially in the regular season where we've made it work with offenses that pretty much can't score at all.

But when you're down by 10 or more, you can't play 90's Marty/Cowher ball.

Or you get what most of those Marty/Cowher teams got in the playoffs.

Being one dimensional means the other team only has to take one thing away from you. And you play good teams in the playoffs.

I think the root of the problem for this team for the last few years is that the only way we can win is if we keep the other team under 20. And if we ever get down by 2 scores, the game is basically over.

So intentionally building our team to be one dimensional is bad IMO.

Granted, being one dimensional would be a HUGE improvement for this offense.

I don't think the 9ers would be nearly as good without multiple good WRs.

Agreed, some point the QB needs to win a shootout. More faith in Wilson to do that than anyone we've had since 2018 Ben.

    Who knows...
Look at his full evaluation and he was raw. He was slight and even his route running was criticized. Wilson has a mature skill set in the very areas that take time for other receivers. I would suggest that Wilson comes in to the league faster, stronger, better route runner, elite hands. Browns only area of superiority as a rookie is innate elusiveness, something I doubt Wilson ever acquires at his level.

Am I suggesting Wilson will EVER BE elite Brown? No, Brown grew to be the most unstoppable receiver in the league.

But I would suggest Wilson enters the league a MUCH MORE finished product than Brown. Like DJ rookie Wilson likely steps in much closer to his ceiling than Brown. And that ceiling quite possibly is a legit number ONE. So seeing him as a possible number 2 as a rookie is not crazy. DJ was that good as a rookie. And this kid ALREADY is faster, tougher, and has better hands.

EVEN TODAY the only thing DJ has better is route running but EVEN THAT is a strength of this kid. So is it really crazy to think Wilson could replace him?

Point of my post is that if you are under 6 feet tall being pigeonholed as no more than a slot is predictable and happens routinely just because of size.

And LEMMINGS KNOW there is more to greatness than size.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

I love when the scouting reports talk about WRs we draft being very good route runners.

I hope that he can become a competent WR2.

I don't know if he can be that right out of the gate, or even by mid-season.

    But I hope so.

Because that seems to be plan A (for now anyway).

scouting reports? Who the hell trust those things? lol
I lost a bet about Najee gaining 1300 yards.

"Our head coach has failed to win a playoff game for seven years in a row. His game day strategy, culture of divas, in game decisions, clock management, player evaluation, hires, and affinity with sub par starters at RB, P, and OL are holding the Steelers back. That standard remains the standard"

    Martavis Bryant to the rescue!

I almost forgot about him completely.

DJ wasn't a WR2 from day 1, but he did have 12 starts as a rookie.

    Hopefully Wilson can do better.

That's what I want to know. You have to be able to trust rookies in this league.
