    Falcons to release Jonnu Smith

    February 27, 2024

The Falcons are moving on from one of their veteran offensive contributors.

Atlanta is releasing tight end Jonnu Smith, according to ESPN?s Adam Schefter.

Smith, 28, was under contract for one more season. By releasing him, the Falcons will save $6.5 million in cap space.

In his one season with Atlanta, Smith set career highs with 50 receptions and 582 yards. He also had three touchdown receptions.

A third-round pick by the Titans in 2017, Smith has 219 career catches for 2,423 yards with 20 touchdowns. With Arthur Smith now in Pittsburgh as offensive coordinator, Jonnu Smith may be headed to the AFC North if the team determines there's a fit.

Did you separate QB rushing attempts from RB rushing attempts?

The Steelers will never employ a FB as a "staple" in the offense regardless of who is OC.

I assume you mean "never again", unless you just started following the Steelers 10-15 years ago.

The Steelers have given Arthur Smith every chance to have success this season.
    • A veteran QB good enough to play in the post season
    • OL rebuilt with power running in mind; added nastiness to go along with "The Angriest RB"
    • A pair of WRs that can win contested catches
    • A TE that was underutilized last season but could be a beast in the RZ

It should be fun watching Smith execute on this vision for the offense. You can question whether old school football really can make a comeback in the NFL but honestly, if this offense can't manage to score 20+ pts/gm then I have to believe it's the end of the Tomlin era (who at this point has not been extended).

    I agree with this.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

    TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher
